Vital Information Regarding the New Direction My Life is Taking
I figured it would make sense to post this on tumblr as well as facebook, since there are some people I'm friends with on this site who aren't on facebook. Anyway, I hope you'll take the time to read this, as it details some incredibly important changes happening in my life.
Jess and I are splitting up.
We don't hate each other. This isn't the result of a fight. As always, we are still really, really good friends, and hopefully always will be. But that is part of the whole reason for this. We are better friends than lovers. I'm not about to go into the explicit details of the situation, but a spark has been missing from our love life for a very, very long time. And when we look at where both of us are, and what we want from a life partner, we realize we aren't what the other one needs. And we realize this is for the best. We're far too young to already feel trapped in a marriage. Staying together won't make it better. Getting a house won't make it better. Having kids won't make it better. We'd only feel more and more trapped, and it would be best for us to both explore our lives and who we are before getting locked into something like that. We realize that now, and regret that it took so long to realize it. We're both looking into seeing other people, and both feel happier and more free than we have in a long time. Its a good thing, and I hope everyone else feels that way too.
I look back on the time I was with Jess and I have some regrets, sure, but I really can't regret having been with her. I've made so many friendships because of it, had so many fun experiences and made memories that will last a lifetime. I will cherish those forever. Our wedding was a wonderful event, and I am so grateful to everyone who was able to share that day with us, and also those who were unable to. I also want to thank those who have made sacrifices for us along the way. I don't think there is any way I can ever repay all of you for your kindness, but I don't want you to feel that this is a slap in the face or anything like that. If you have supported me and Jess in the past, I hope that you will continue to support us in our lives as they move in separate directions. I love all of you, and will never forget what you all have done for us.
So, what does this mean for me? Well, in some ways, things are going to seem very similar. Like I said, Jess and I are still the best of friends, so don't be surprised if you still see us hanging out at conventions together all the time. But to be honest, a lot of things are going to change. Jess and I will no longer be living together, and I'll be moving from Buffalo back to the east coast (I'm aiming to leave Monday the 7th, after I finish my last two weeks at work). I'll probably be in CT to start off so that I can reconnect with my family, but chances are that in the end, I'm going to ultimately relocate to NH. I would love a chance to reconnect with all of my friends and family who live out this way, as I figure out what my next move will be. It's a bit scary. For the first time in five years, I honestly can't say I know where life is going to take me. But I intend to take this opportunity, and make the most of it. I'm going to live life to the fullest, and make nothing but good memories.
One last thing. I know this whole situation is going to come to a shock to a lot of you. I think to a lot of people, our relationship was thought to be an example of true love. I don't want anyone to be disheartened by this. I still believe in love over anything else. We are doing this because of love, and I am not going to be closing my heart off. Instead, I want to be able to rediscover love, one stronger and more complex than the one I've known for the past 5 years. And I intend to find it. Never give up on love. It is the greatest thing there is.
Thank you, everyone. Feel free to message me about any of this.
