Quick plug for this company- it’s the brainchild of an old friend & neighbor, and I really hope it works out the way it’s intended to. Their website is still under construction but the purpose of the company is to connect ethical & sustainable US wool with US garment manufacturers to create a sustainable, traceable wool-to-clothing production line. Imperial’s been through a lot in the last decade. This is the ranch that supplied the wool for the US Olympic winter uniforms two rounds ago, and they’ve had some ups and downs since then, but the Carvers are a resilient family and take land, animal and people care very seriously. Our local area’s sheep-ranching history isn’t great- the land was seriously overgrazed through the 1950s- so to see a family working so hard to rewrite the sheep & wool production script to something that works for the land and animals is really amazing. Wool is a perfect vulture material IMO, another great way to respect and appreciate the products of nature. While individuals can’t buy from them directly yet, if you have local businesses that supply wool clothing, ask if they’ve considered sourcing through this chain.
