Blackwater Dive

2024, hand bleached and dyed denim, cotton batting and thread

inspired by blackwater photography of plankton! this was my first time layering bleach painting. All the silhouettes were painted with bleaching gel, loosely tie dyed, and then bleached again to make the highlights. I quilted the piece using my free motion foot to outline each individual animal and tacked down the rest of the quilt with small satin stitches that remind me of marine snow. I dyed bias tape to match. super happy with this one and excited to show it in a gallery setting soon!

Completed capelet, knit entirely from handdyed handspun with a vintage glass frog button.

Pattern is the Duet Capelet by Vanessa Ewing (Etsy or Ravelry).

Dye job was ‘Mossy Rocks’ by JillianEve, which I spun myself in my daedalus e-spinner.

Shaved Ice the Sheep

After my last con, I needed a quick little palette cleanser personal project - I love making things for other people, but sometimes you need to make something for yourself! I decided that what I wanted was a little friend to sit up on top of the Color Machine, and the sheep from the logo design felt like a perfect choice. She’s accompanied by dye bottles and a couple little balls of wool, and has a magnet in her base to help her stay steady up on top.

This was a personal piece and is not for sale, but my commissions are currently open and I’d love to talk ideas with anyone who wants to add a felted friend to their world!

𖡼.𖤣𖥧 final assortment of handspun I made from 8oz. of ‘glowworm’ hand-dyed polwarth, notes below 𖡼.𖤣𖥧

fibre (from website but pretty much what my bundles looked like) ⤵︎

2-ply, spun and plied on drop spindle. oh this is my special lil guy, like a worm on a string. just reinforces that drop spindle is simple and the best. ⤵︎

2-ply, spun and plied (painfully) on eew nano 2.0. ⤵︎

3-ply/chain-ply sample and full skein, spun and plied on ashford 3. the small skein ended up with all of the oranges/browns so it has a very different palette. pretty much a perfect 5 sts per inch. ⤵︎

2-ply, spun on eew/ashford, plied (happily) on ashford. ⤵︎

really enjoyed doing a mix of things , learned soooo much, and have some tentative plans for most of this yarn. the 3-ply will likely be a contrast colour in a black sweater, I think that would be so cool!
