MY ETHICS PROPOSAL WAS FINALLY APPROVED! WOOHOO!
The ethics proposal revisions have been uploaded so I am rid of the fucking thing for the next while at least. Good vibes for it passing ethics this time are appreciated.
Fucking ethics proposal revisions. Goddamn it.
12 of 31 revisions now taken care of. 19 to go. Bah.
Gotta work on the revisions for my ethics proposal for my dissertation. Wish me luck. I have NO motivation whatsoever to do this because it is unbearably tedious and all I want to do is yell at the reviewers “REALLY? DO YOU REALLY FUCKING THINK I WOULD DO THAT TO MY PARTICIPANTS???” Sigh. Good vibes appreciated.
Addendum to my earlier venting
I just got the loveliest email from the prof who’s going to be the second reader on my dissertation, who also happens to be a member of the Jewish community where I live. I sent her my ethics proposal several days ago just to keep her in the loop and she wrote me this evening to say how impressed she was with the work I’ve done and how important this is going to be to Canadian Jewish historical scholarship.
It was so good to have that validation after getting the ethics proposal back, I can’t even tell you.
I need to vent
Just got my ethics proposal for my dissertation back from the committee. It’s no wonder most people consider the ethics process a fucking joke. My supervisor, in forwarding it on to me, even said it is an exceptionally picky response.
This is further proof for my theory that you don’t receive a PhD for your actual research, because by this point they know we can all research and write a coherent paper. No, they give you a PhD once they see you can survive all the red tape, bureaucratic bullshit and jump through all the hoops for 4+ years. If you can do that, then welcome to the club.

Currently writing the ethics proposal for my dissertation. Is there anything more tedious?
