My 99 year old grandmother just let it slip that one of her best friends’s sons committed a murder (no, not a act of self defense, just a truly disgusting act against a woman) and that her friend took her sons side till the end and kept going back to the courts over and over to get him released.

And so I said that there was no way in hell I could be friends with someone who could side with their kid after that, only to be lectured that “you should always take your kids side no matter what.”

So I’m asking tumblr,

Could you be friends with someone whose kid did something unforgivable and vehemently took their side?

Yes, they didn’t commit the crime and you should always be on your kids side.

No, that is truly vile and tells me that they’re not a person I could trust.

It really depends on the situation, it’s a case by case thing for me.

I’m completely neutral on this subject.

It's ok if you don't want to answer this, but do you think radiation/chemo for pets is actually ethical? I want to ask someone who actually knows what they're talking about. Cus I've had a few relatives go through it and it seems awful. To me it doesn't seem right to put something that can't say no through that, but again I'm not a vet so idk if it's different.

I actually have no first hand experience with chemo/radiation therapy outside of boarding a couple cats that had radioactive iodine therapy for hyperthyroidism. I think, if I recall correctly, that with animals we’re not trying to cure the cancers, just... extend the quality of life by slowing those tumors down. I think a lot of care and attention is paid to how the animal is handling everything.

I found a giant epic fic, that I’ve read thru at least twice (no I mean it’s like 1M or something, it’s giant), that vanished everywhere except the fabulous Internet Archive. And I want to put it on AO3...but I do not know how to contact the author (the email that was saved on archive.org bounced, shockingly). And AO3 TOS do not allow that, quite reasonably. So I guess I’ll put it on my own server and do a link? Is that wildly unethical? I want to rescue this brilliant piece of writing...and I lean towards thinking that the site hosting this fic just fell apart, rather than this author wanting the fic to disappear, but heck, I don’t know what really happened. What do y’all think?

At the very least I’ll snarf it for my own library, but I think it’s sad that it’s not available to others.

I have an ethics question for tumblr.

Suppose there was a multiversal traveler, capable of placing themselves anywhere in the infinite infinities that lie past the borders of our universe. Suppose they were infatuated with a person, but found their advances spurned.

Now, this traveler wouldn’t dream of manipulating their love, so instead they hop into a nearly-identical universe, one where every variable is the same except for one: the target of their affection has a personality slightly different from the first. This version of their lover is an entirely different person with no knowledge of or contact with their other-universe self.

So the traveler asks them if they return their affections. And the new person says no, and so they repeat the process until they find a Version of their love that returns their affection, while also being nearly the same person.

These are all separate people, mind you, not one person being brainwashed or overwritten. And they are not created by the traveler; they and their universes existed before the traveler even fell in love.

So, is the traveller morally wrong to do this? Is it exploitative, or just another way of dating?

Ethics question

I am trying to get a group of friends together for New Year's Eve (10-12 people max). We wanted to do a roaring '20s themed dress-up get together to count down the new year, have some champagne and hors d'oeuvres, and maybe dance, but nothing raucous.

Many places say no parties and I understand that they don't want a 300 person house party happening where things can get broken. I totally get that. But as a small gathering of friends who just want to ring in the new year do I consider us a party?

Ethics Question

When I first started hosting my Airbnb I did not realize you had to move the location pin on the map by hand, and thus my pin was located in the middle of the city I live in. I got a ton of bookings and in general no one complained and I got 5 star reviews. I’ve since become a super host.When I realized my mistake I adjusted the pin, and have since received a fraction of the inquiries. Our description has always explicitly stated that we are 20 minutes from downtown. Every aspect of our listing indicates we are not directly downtown, but it’s killing me to see how hard it is to find my property when using my friends app. You have to literally zoom all the way in to my street before it pops up. Even though I am a super host and work certified. I have 100% five star reviews as well.My question is: is it ethically and morally ok for me to move the pin to a location that will garner more hits/views while I state clearly my location in the rest of the listing?Thanks in advance.
