Ethridge
Klaviertober - 14
14. A piece of a composer of your nationality
Jean Ethridge is a Canadian composer who is well known for her compositions for students. This lovely Reverie is a beautiful example - it’s in the RCM Grade 3 book, but she has managed to squeeze real music into the technical constraints of a beginning pianist.
(That’s me at the piano.)

Roe Ethridge's exhibition “Innocence II,” opens tomorrow at Gagosian San Francisco, from 5–7PM PT. Come check it out! “Innocence II” includes a new series of large-scale, layered photographs printed on brass. Multiple exposures and transparencies synthesize on the gleaming metallic surface, producing near-alchemical effects, as if each detail were made of light itself. http://fal.cn/tjJr
Gagosian NOW - The latest at Gagosian.
SEPTEMBER 20, 2017
What's the latest NOW? What is the function of a portrait? To memorialize? To capture someone’s “essence”? These questions run throughout the history of visual culture—from the Roman death masks of antiquity to the covers of fashion magazines.
In his upcoming exhibition, “Innocence II,” opening at Gagosian San Francisco on September 21st, Roe Ethridge complicates the questions of portraiture, revealing how various layers of the self coalesce within a single image, whether an iPhone screenshot, a nude self-portrait, or a photograph of one’s childhood home. Using his own past as source material, Ethridge locates the intersection of recognition and estrangement, tracing the history of photography along the way. Read more by clicking the link below!
Press release—Roe Ethridge at Gagosian San Francisco
AUGUST 30, 2017
ROE ETHRIDGE INNOCENCE II Opening reception: Thursday, September 21, 5–7PM September 21–October 28, 2017 657 Howard Street San Francisco, CA 94105
An image has to sing. It's not just something to decode and find the true meaning of. I have to feel its harmonies and disharmonies. —Roe Ethridge Gagosian is pleased to present “Innocence II,” new photographs and sculpture by Roe Ethridge. This is his first solo exhibition in San Francisco. In Ethridge’s photographs the real is used to suggest, or disrupt, the ideal. Through commercial images of fashion models, products, and advertisements as well as intimate moments from his own daily life, he reveals the fine line between the generic and the personal, merging art-historical genres with the image culture of today. Field Trip! Tagged along to Ethridge, TN today aka Amish Country. We witnessed a produce auction and a lot of cute animals and people. I wasn't allowed to take pictures of the people so here's some pictures of the animals and pumpkins. I got a straw hat for $11 and now I wanna make an Amish dress. I guess if you're only allowed to wear one style you're entire life at least it's a pretty good one. ✌💕 #fieldtrip #ethridge #amish (at Ethridge, Tennessee) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEube_3BKNQ/?igshid=k4sf3xfc2wda
