Aren’t you thinking current Tom Hardy is full mid life crisis Tom Hardy? No more indie films (allowing him creative depth), letting bjj become his personality (see: Anthony Bourdain), a twee hand tattoo?
Have you ever what BJJ means to him? He's an addict. He's said many times it helps center him and keep his head in check. I think Tom approaches any film creatively. He changed and added so much to the character of Eddie. He also has quite a few projects he has been involved with, whether writing or producing or starring, for quite a while now. Some of them are with his friend Greg Williams, the photographer. At this point he has said in an Esquire interview, he can see himself retiring not too far from now. He'll have the money to support his family without having to do as many projects (indie or not).
Comparing him to Anthony Bourdain is pretty ridiculous. He had quite a few of his own issues outside of practicing BJJ. He was a junkie and an alcoholic, suffered from severe depression.
Tom enjoys BJJ for the mental and physical benefits, but also because it allows him to work right alongside veterans which is a huge passion of his. Tom has said, "Jiu-Jitsu is very Buddhist. All that we fear we hold close to ourselves to survive. So if you're drowning and you see a corpse floating by, hold onto it, because it will rescue you." In his case, Jiu-Jitsu rescues him. He struggles with fear quite a bit. Anything that helps calm his OCD mind and continued sobriety is fine with me, as long as it is healthy. He also boxes, rows, bikes, walks, runs, little bit of muay thai.
Concerning his new tattoo, are you even a fan of his? He is covered in tattoos representing people and places in his life. Every single on has a deep meaning to him. He's been a regular at the Bike Shed Moto Co in London for YEARS, therefore, he's been great friends with the owners, Vikki and her husband Dutch. Tom is actually deeply involved in the creation and execution of the LA BSMC. It is part his project. So he has cemented its opening and his friendship with Vikki on his skin. As he has done with MANY other people in his life (male and female).
Is it really any of our business anyway?
Ears.
Still bloody cute to this day.
