(1/2) I've been a follower of your blog for awhile and its always really exciting to see other AA artists who are concerned about these things. Here are my answers: 1. Not the first artist in my family, but the first to go to school for it. My parents were really worried about my financial security, but they were very supportive. 2. My work is really influenced by Asian art and manga and I've been both complimented and criticized for it. Manga brings out a lot of strong feelings apparently :p
Hi! Thank you! And, uh, your work is fucking awesome, geez.Absolutely agree on committing to diversity, and the isolation that the lack of representation creates. I forgot who said it, but I think of this line that goes something like “If you want to create a monster: deny someone, at every level, any representation of themselves.” Also, dap that prof.Edit– Yes! Junot Diaz! Thank you.
