Damn Kaneki, that’s really harsh because your precious surrogate father Arima was working with her to find another one eyed king, in other words he’s also responsible for everything that went wrong in your life. And yet you pay the saddest respects to Arima but call Eto heavy-handed in her last moments. Really awful how you wanted to let her rot to death in prison like that. Omg, Eto is guilty but why does he treat her counterpart so differently????? Arima cold bloodedly killed millions of ghouls including his wife’s mother. He did that just for the dramatic impact on ghouls when someone manages to kill the grim reaper. Eto is really much better than Arima in that she actually had to be hard hearted to survive, but Arima???😒

I originally set out to write this because the canonical ending for my favorite characters upset me; it was a sort of attempt to figure out whether they could move on and find happiness, or if they were doomed regardless. My answer is both: in some ways they can improve, while other things will haunt them for the rest of their lives, but as long as there is life, there is hope. Something like that.

Two years later, I realize there are some scenes I would like to rewrite. But there are also scenes I’m truly proud of.

I edited the piece a month ago (mostly the grammar), so it’s more pleasant to read now?

All in all, it’s a pretty good work, and it would be great if you read it.

I'll answer about Arieto because I have more meaningful or well-defined headcanons for that ship than for any other.

(Several of my favorite NSFW headcanons are reflected in these fanfics: One step away from falling, Vacuum and not only them)

Arima grew up in the Sunlit Garden, and this left a mark on him that permeates every aspect of his life, his sexuality included. His worldview was shattered when he learned from other students and colleagues that they viewed sex as something pleasurable, desirable, and linked to love-concepts that stood in stark contrast to the rhetoric of the Sunlit Garden. I believe Arima consciously tries to avoid this realm and suppresses any such desires, just as he suppresses all other desires in his life; even after discovering the "normal side of life", the weight of his experiences in the Garden continues to press down on him, and it is incredibly difficult to shake off that cult-like mindsets.

Eto, in turn, is far more uninhibited and fully understands her desires, yet views sex purely as physical pleasure (because she deeply craves an emotional connection but is afraid to admit it, so self-deception is the way out, isn't it?)

Together, they sound like a recipe for potential disaster or a recipe for healing; yet the final outcome is impossible to predict, and the scales could tip either way at any moment.

So, headcanons:

– Eto is definitely the one who initiates their intimacy (because Arima isn't the most proactive person, and because sex makes him anxious).

– Most likely, Eto will have to give a brief sex-ed lecture (regardless of whether Arima is a virgin or not). I think he had familiarized himself with the theoretical side of things while exploring the world beyond the garden, so he could blend in, but all that theory flew right out of his head the moment Eto straddled him.

– Eto is more controlling and dominant (especially at first), since Arima doesn't mind being controlled; he trusts her experience more than his own. However, over time, the roles might shift.

– Eto is definitely the one who introduces experimentation into their sex life.

– Arima has most likely went through a fit of self-hatered after sex at least once and tried to distance himself (unsuccessfully).

– Sometimes they have misunderstandings because Arima has a low libido, while Eto’s is quite high.

– Eto might see their whole arrangement as just fun, but over time she will come to horrifying realization that she actually feels something for him (and has probably felt something for a very long time), and it hits her like a punch to the gut, because her mother's relationship with her father started in a similar way and ended badly, not to mention that their story absolutely cannot end well, and now she made it even more complicated...

– Eto doesn't always controls her strength, so sometimes Arima ends up with bruises or nail marks (after he let it slip that he likes those marks, Eto deliberately stopped holding back)

– If anyone from Arima's squad ever noticed those marks, he explained them as "a fight with a strong ghoul".

– Arima had no idea a kakugan could pop out from arousal, so he thought Eto was going to eat him. Unfortunately for him, ever since then, every time Eto is about to seduce him, she says she wants to eat him, and he hopes he doesn't develop an unwanted reflex.

– Since Eto is a ghoul and Arima is an investigator, they've played out that role play at least once.

– Besides, they both have daddy issues, they might have explored together too as well.

– And since they're both hybrids, but such different kinds of hybrids, they are very interested in studying each other's bodies, and genuinely fascinated by them.
