My shop will be temporarily closed to protest the newly hiked Etsy fees being enforced! Apparently the millions of dollars worth of passive income that Etsy receives just from our already-existing transaction fees is NOT enough, and they want more. Help out the creatives who host their businesses on Etsy by NOT CROSSING THE PICKET LINE from April 11 - April 18, and spreading the word.

Etsy was founded with a vision of "keeping commerce human" by "democratizing access to entrepreneurship." As a result, people who have been marginalized in traditional retail economies -- women, people of color, LGBTQ people, neurodivergent people, etc. -- make up a significant proportion of Etsy's sellers. For many of us, Etsy makes up our main source of income. But as Etsy has strayed further and further from its founding vision over the years, what began as an experiment in marketplace...

This is why I’m not on Etsy

When researching the various online seller platforms to start selling my work I heard this discussion surrounding Etsy and their fee structure. Their blatant disregard for their users and the vague pricing structure ultimately turned me off attempting to use their site.

Buyers and sellers alike are boycotting the site from the 11th - 18th of April to protest the 30% fee hike (despite making record profits during the pandemic) and this petition has launched to get their attention. So you should sign it. Don’t let late stage capitalism destroy the creative market.

Personally, I have loved working on Etsy. I started on Etsy because it's taken me so long to find time to create my own shopfiy store, but in the meantime, Etsy has been there as a great alternative. But all the new policies they have put in the place over the last few years are to squeeze as much money out of sellers as possible. From forcing makers into paying for off site Ads, to making us feel that we can no longer offer letter class shipping on small items like stickers and patches. At the same time, they hike up their fees by 30%, forcing owners to raise their prices so they can still make a living wage. It's not fair to small business owners, the people who make Etsy as great as it is. The etsy platform is meant to be a tool to help small businesses but the policies they've been putting in place especially during the pandemic have been created to line their own pockets nothing more. I've seen so many artists get fed up with Etsy and abandon the platform. I don't want to have to do the same, I hope Etsy can recognize their mistakes and work with their artists to change and make the platform work to benefit everyone. This strike is to let Etsy know loud and clear that somthing has to change. Punks Strike Back!

Etsy is raising fees on its sellers despite record breaking profits. So Fiction Punk will be closing its doors from April 11th to April 18th and possibly onwards depending on the way Etsy responds.

➰Summer Time= Fall Prep➰ • Here in Syracuse, the temperature is slightly cooler than I’d like for it being almost July but it has me geeking for fall!
