Did you know that the Beautiful Wood Nymph (Eudryas grata) is a species of moth known for its mimicry of bird droppings? Typically found across eastern North America, these moths feed on all sorts of vines and shrubs. Though the yellow hind wings give them away a bit, their mimicry of excrement helps them avoid being eaten by potential predators because who would really want to be a coprophage?

I found a beautiful wood nymph for the first time EVER this year and he was so delightful it literally made my whole week

Moth sheet was lit last night (literally). That last one is quite rare, we don't even know for sure what the caterpillar eats!

Beautiful wood nymph (Eudryas grata) whom I had mistaken as poop.  Someone on Instagram said he looked like a slice of cake, too.  LOL

It’s amazing how I’ve lived here all my life and keep discovering new creatures.

He was still sprawled out when the sun rose.  I was glad because I really thought he was going to be gone before I could get more pics.
