Preview of the most complicated topic I've ever illustrated. It's for a systems security poster by VUSec to be presented at the conference Eurosys in Porto, Portugal, later this month. Also swipe for my workplace for the day, with appropriate monitor stand 😅 The Memory Management Unit or MMU is a piece of hardware that directs memory traffic. If a pointer, here shown as a little car, does a sneaky hacker's bidding by trying to access an object in memory it isn't supposed to see (e.g., a password), its tail can be marked so that the MMU picks it out and ZzZAPPs it to oblivion. This paper is about the method behind this marking, using something called "Delta tags".
