my dude, what are your thoughts on les mis? it looks like you did just like me when i read it: you freaking devoured it
hi yes! so i was only planning to read part 1 yesterday and read the whole book over the month, but i realised 1) i was a lot more likely to finish it if i read it in one sitting and 2) i didn’t actually want to put it down. i think my main takeaway was “oh, that’s what all my mutuals’ urls mean”, as well as being amazed by how detailed everything is? like, i’d been warned about the bishop thing and the sewer thing, but i kind of figured it wouldn’t be that bad, and yet,,,,,,,,,
but anyway i’ll put the rest of my thoughts in bullet points:
gavroche. gavROCHE. best boy
marius running around in mourning clothes for years after his father dies is funny as hell rip sorry
montparnasse deciding he can’t be fucked taking part in an armed robbery and talking to eponine instead? a mood
“permets-tu?” killed me even though i knew it was coming
(speaking of which, highly offended that victor hugo came into the future and stole my personality for his pollux/nisus/patroclus)
the musical/movie left out so much? like patron-minette for one thing obvs, but also a ton of thenadier lore
actually yeah the thenadiers play a way bigger part in the book than they do in the musical? which was kinda wild
UM javert was way more nuanced too, but i had got the impression already
occasionally there were bits were hugo’s like “i don’t know exactly what they said” and it’s like dude. dude. you wrote the damn thing
prouvaire sounds like a sweetie
that’s all i can think of for now but i’m sure i’ll come back to it later?
can you do julia for the name aes, pls?
summertime nostalgia is your middle name, crushed orange in hand, juice dripping down your wrist
i don't know if you like this type of book, but honestly 'child 44' is the best book i read this year
huh it’s not my typical thing but it sounds interesting

have you ever read anything by tolstoy? bc i too want to read war and peace (that bbc mini series was too good), but i have read anna karenina and i really didn't like it, so i have my doubts, idk
yes, i’ve read anna karenina. i consider it one of my favorite books–but not because i loved it. it’s one of my favorite books because i didn’t love it. in fact, it made me so angry, so confused, so conflicted. prepare for some ranting.
don't know if it's too late already, but happy birthday!!
Not too late :) Thank you!
