Being psychotic is very often traumatic and I think that's something that is overlooked. People sometimes joke about delusions like "haha they thought the government was spying on them personally", "haha they thought there were people living in their walls" etc, but to do that I feel that you have to completely disconnect from the fact that WE REALLY DO BELIEVE AND EXPERIENCE THESE THINGS, so it's like... Do you think it's fun to be targeted by an oppressive government? Do you think it's fun to live through a literal horror movie? REALLY?
Like this is not even getting into how many psychotic people end up hospitalized which is often its own very external source of trauma.
Delusions and hallucinations are traumatic by themselves.
I grew up believing that the other kids in school were literally plotting to euthanize me. I joke about it because it's painful, but that shit fucked me up. Growing up with a massive target on my back, knowing that I might be killed if I let my guard down. It was traumatic! Even if it was all in my head. Turns out that's where humans process their experiences, anyways.
