I need your thoughts on something. So in France euthanisia is illegal, however a Formula 1 racer who had been in an accident suffered severe brain trauma and his family has been told by experts that he will never recover. He does, however, cry, laugh, and experiences little over emotions. The decision has been made to let him die, as in, stop feeding and hydrating him and simply wait for him to die. It will take about five days for him to die. What are your thoughts?
Sounds similar to some cases we've had in the US, including the Terri Schivo case. Of course, there is also the question of his quality of life.
If a person on life support is estimated to never recover, and there is no way to fully communicate to ask them what they want, do you really think it fair to ask someone to live like that the rest of their life, or ask their family to take care of them?
So honestly, I don't know all the particulars, but if the family agrees that this is what's best for him, and they are taking the doctor's opinions into account, then it might be what's best for him.
Just know that doing what they plan to also means he will be given constant pain medication so he doesn't suffer anything.
