Thoughts on Grown-ish Series 4 Episode 6
So the series is finally caught up to present day and the topic of protests being turned to riots that end in looting came up, with the white girl in the group (Jewish as well) points out that the looting serves no purpose to the point of the protests, and everyone agrees that the riots were caused by the police. The two black girls she's talking to decide to tell her that that is "racist thinking" somehow, even saying that looting is "the oppressed standing up against their oppressors". (?) Then one even says she's sure her dad (a black man small business owner) would willingly let his business burn to make a point. What caught me by surprise there is that most black business owners across the country were offended by the looting of their livelihood and didn't find it helpful to the cause.
Frankly, in the face of all the minorities who lost or nearly lost their businesses because of looting, I will never see how looting helps bringing awareness to the cause against police brutality. That isn't "white fragility", not when many cities found it was predominately white people doing the looting, and not those who were protesting.
