like do i think shen yuan is disabled: yes.
shen qingqiu is explicitly disabled & one of the primary things that to me supports a reading of sy as disabled is how quickly he adjusts to limitations. the fact that he's constantly risking flareups / that part of his adjustment is specifically a Failure To Adjust & ignore his condition... also parses as extremely extremely disabled to me.
like but ummm. there's ways that disabled people live their lives and ways to make us look like (stumbling around blindly looking for a comparison) swooning maidens with tuberculosis from an opera or something. and i find that often fic leans very hard towards the latter. at a certain point you get used to being disabled i guess is my point, and you still get frustrated about it...
this post is impossible to write because there's my personal experience and that of many of my friends and then there's whatever is going on in shen yuan's head. but i do find it instructive to understand how normal human beings think first, before trying to work out how shen yuan would do it weirder and worse.
