Metering Modes // 14th September.
Metering Modes
There are three metering modes on a camera. These metering modes are the way the camera works out the exposure.
-spot metering
If you use spot metering the camera will get the exposure from the spot you are pointing to. The spot tends to be in the centre of the camera. You can use a grey card for spot metering so the camera knows where mid grey is.
-evaluative
Evaluative metering takes in the whole scene you are photographing and elements such as brightness, contrast etc. and averages all of the tones to the same mid grey.
-centre weighted
Centre weighted averages out the tones in the centre of the image to mid grey rather than the whole image.
The camera sees black or white as 18% grey.
