Thrilled to officially announce that Recoil will be featured at Palm Springs International Film Festival & ShortFest on June 21st, Saturday NIGHT at 7:00pm!!! We close out the "Space Od(d)yssey" program! Looking forward to screening with other amazingly talented filmmakers at one of the best festivals in the world :)

GUESS WHAT... WE FINISHED RECOIL!
I can't believe I am actually typing these words right now!!! We wrapped the sound mix at Warner Brothers this past weekend and laid it all back to tape on Monday and... DAMN, this movie sounds AMAZING! Hats off to my killer elite sound team: Jessie, Dan, Justin, Josh, and Carlos.
Crazy skills and sound design that will take your breath away. So thrilled with it. And the score... holy crap, it definitely will make you drive too fast. Thanks, Gareth!
Clearly, I'm very excited to be finished after this 22 month journey through the high seas of Recoil. I am so appreciative and there are so many people to thank. I honestly can't wait for the screening this weekend so I can thank the heroes of Recoil in public. And then have some fun with them afterward, for a change! :)
We're screening in a nice huge theater on Saturday night and I get to see everyone's faces again, like the ending to Big Fish! :) A little bit further to go, yet. Still have to make DVDs and do kickstarter rewards through September and then we get to have some fun with the film festival circuit and looking for the next film with my manager.
Between now and then, I hope to be in a pool sometime soon with shades, a cocktail, and some much needed vitamin D.
The dishes are done, man!

Happy New Year everyone! We are in Full Blown VFX MODE!
I have to thank everyone in the VFX team for keeping all the plates spinnging during the holidays. There is so much to be done and I am lucky to have such a committed team alongside me. Same goes for our sound design team. These special peoples have been at it as well.
But, as the work grows, so does the need for more talent. Thus, the photo this week, a flyer I’ve been using to find new talent and recruits. I’ve been very lucky to attract the talents of several Gnomon School artists and a couple from USC Animation, as well. Very cool stuff and great for the team (about 40 VFX artists total, now).
In the next few weeks… We’re having the final models animated, shots composited and particle effects comped with the space shots. Meanwhile… The sound team continues their hard work as we re-record dialogue, foley fx, and record Bodhi’s character VO (more to come on that).
Next Big Steps!
Continue VFX, record the Score, Sound Mix at Skywalker Sound in SF, and start putting that all together come March!

But I'm here to talk about fundraising today! Yay!!
So... I hate fundraising. It's the worst when feeling like you beg everyone you know for money to help make your film. BUT, it is 100% necessary to make movies. Every director that ever made their first, breakthrough film, had to ask for help. And, then they got good at it. Donations, personal savings, crowd funding, cash/checks, grants, scholarships, loans, endowments, fellowships, matching programs, special interest groups, under the couch, you name it! You have to look everywhere that somewhat applies to your film, then research, and custom fit each presentation to the funding source. If you can. It's a bit much, but if you're hungry enough, you'll go hunting.
There is one class that has a few days that cover fundraising and you try several exercises. Which, actually, were very useful in getting this whole ball rolling. But, it's hard, and it's a TON of extra work, or, well, it's required work. You have an expensive movie, remember?
But, it's important to fundraise and get good at it. Otherwise, I plumit further into student debt as I apply for another production loan. I still have a lot to learn in this field, but so far, I've raised enough to make this movie. Beg, borrow, but don't steal. Have some class and tact, too. If you have an eye for design, more power to you.
In the end, it's crazy important to raise money. It's easily back burnered, which I did, but don't procrastinate on this one. You can never start raising money too soon. There will always be something to pay for, secure, reserve, rent, etc. It's painful to ask for help, at least for me anyway, but I had to swallow my pride and ask becuase... this is something I believe in, that I work hard for everyday, and everyone that donates will be pround of the product that they became a part of.
A MASSIVE THANK YOU to everyone that has supported me at each stage of the film. I couldn't have come this far without you and I will make you all proud.

AND WE'RE PICTURE LOCKED!!!
What does that mean exactly? That we're a long way from done :) Well, sort of, but we're done editing, so no more messing with what shots go where and getting creative with our coverage. But, this is a big deal people. Now we can open the flood gates for both VFX and Sound. VFX and Sound have always been in the works, but now that the edit isn't shifting around, those departments can proceed full steam ahead as they work to the edit's specifications.
But wait... there's more!
Young finished the first model of the hero ship. It's currently getting rigged and then passed over to Justin for some super awesome texturing!
AAAAAND we just hired a superstar Matte Painter to create all our starfields that are outside of 3D. Anthony's got crazy skills: http://artams.com/illustration.html
The sound team can finally make the big push with the locked cut... and all is right in the world.
Well, almost! There's a lot of hard work to pour into this still, so hold on tight, it's about to get even cooler.
