Two Roads Diverged in a Yellow Wood, and Sorry I Could Not Travel Both

This has been one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make, but it has been made clear to me that, for whatever reason (and I have my suspicions, but I’m not going to go into them), the Chris Evans fandom is no longer interested in this project.

(I also was hospitalized last month and came closer to dying or losing a leg than I really want to think about.  And I’ve had other struggles in my life the last few years, and I really think that I need to refocus my energies.)

But remember folks, we came together and we did an amazing thing.  Together, we raised more than $4,400 for Christopher’s Haven, and we had over 42 people pledge to donate blood.  For a small, fandom-organized, fandom-run campaign, that is a truly awesome result.

Each and every one of you that donated, that pledged to give blood, that signal boosted the campaign - you all came together and showed that the Evangers fandom really does care.  Be proud!

I will leave the current campaign open until the date set for it to close (June 14) in case anyone else wishes to donate or pledge to give blood, but I will not be setting up any future campaigns - unless I see signs of interest in this project again.  I love you all, but my efforts towards this project have produced little to no results for the past year, and given that and the things going on in my personal life, I need to refocus my energies on me for a while.

Calling all fans of Marvel and Chris Evans.  We’re back for another year!

Over our first three years, as a fandom we've raised $4,388.50 for Christopher’s Haven, and had 86 donors pledge to donate blood through the American Red Cross   And we're back for our fourth year, to keep making a difference, together, as a fandom!

The idea is simple: to organize a fundraiser for Christopher’s Haven in honor of Chris Evans’ 37th birthday on June 13, 2018 (and as the fandom’s gift to him).  This idea was inspired by the Hiddlestoners Have Heart campaign that has raised, to date, over 50,000 british pounds to support Unicef UK.  We believe that the Evangers (Chris Evans fandom) can achieve something similar.  Something good, and honor Chris on his birthday at the same time!

As we all know, Chris has supported Christopher’s Haven in the past, and it is a very worthwhile charity.  They provide a home away from home for children who are undergoing treatment for cancer and their families at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.  If you haven’t yet heard of Christopher’s Haven, please click on the link to go to their website and learn more about the amazing things they do.

Every day, 43 children are diagnosed with cancer.  Each year globally, 14 million people are diagnosed with cancer.

We can do something about it.  Imagine if, in addition to seeing Avengers: Infinity War (U.S. release April 27, 2018) in movie theaters, fans pitched in the same amount as their movie ticket to support Christopher’s Haven as well?  Or made a donation of blood through the Red Cross or their local blood bank? 

We believe that we can come together as a fandom, and we can make a difference.

This year’s campaign will run from now until June 14, 2018.  Come and join us, lovelies!

End of 2017 campaign wrap-up

Ladies and gentlemen, our final total this year is $1,358 raised for Christopher’s Haven.  That’s 57% of our 2017 goal. 

(Unfortunately, the donation page shut down early once again.  Based on what has happened in the past, we thought it would shut down around 9pm on June 14, but it stopped taking donations earlier.  This is why we put the ending date on the 14th instead of Chris’s actual birthday, to make sure everyone has the full chance through the end of the 13th to make a donation.  Our apologies to anyone who wanted to donate at the last minute and was unable to do so.)

Our three-year total of funds raised for Christopher’s Haven now stands at $4,389. 

That’s money that has and will go towards housing, and all of the life-affirming, life-supporting, family atmosphere that goes with it at the Haven, for children battling cancer and their families.

We also had 15 people pledge to give blood this year.  That’s potentially 45 lives saved.

What can we say about this fandom that hasn’t already been said?

To everyone who signal boosted the campaign, thank you.

Each and every one of you has shown that Evangers really do care.  And we are so proud to be part of this fandom, and we so proud to know each and every one of you.  You are all amazing.

And yes, we will be back next year.  We’re gonna keep doing this as long as you all are with us, and as long as there are child heroes out there who need our help to battle cancer - and win.

Winners have been chosen for the 2017 raffle!   We had a total of 30 entries this year, which considering the late announcement of the raffle, and the necessity of restricting entry to the United States, is absolutely amazing.  Those 30 entries represent $150 in donations to Christopher’s Haven, and we couldn’t be prouder of or more thankful to all of you.

In the first two years of this annual campaign, the fandom raised $3,031 for Christopher’s Haven, and had 71 donors pledge to donate blood through the American Red Cross.  This was done as the fandom’s birthday gift to him.

And we’re doing it again this year, and aiming to make it even better!
