I really don’t get how Conservatives can be so fucking against things like free education and healthcare yet claim that they’re patriots and “love America”. No, you love corporations and the wealthy. If you really loved America you’d be doing everything you could to ensure that we’d become stronger. We become stronger by supporting each other. Which means that you ensure that EVERYONE is getting the education they deserve so that they can fill jobs, and you can stop whining about how immigrants are “stealing” jobs. America is falling behind in terms of education, and that has a lot to do with the way schools are funded and how few people can actually afford to finish or even go to college. We should WANT a well-educated society. We should want to ensure that students with brilliant minds who can innovate and come up with new solutions won’t have their talents and skills wasted because they weren’t able to obtain the education they needed. There is probably someone out there who will be able to discover a way to completely prevent cancer from even happening but they are poor and don’t have the support and access they need to reach that goal so they’re stuck in a dead-end job where customers constantly belittle and degrade them on a daily basis.
On top of that, in terms of healthcare, conservatives LOVE to claim that they are pro-family, yet they aren’t really supportive of socialized health care at all. If everyone was under the same plan it would actually make things cheaper in a lot of ways. It would also mean that poorer people could get preventative care so that things don’t get horrible and pricier. We’d have fewer people dying, fewer infants dying, fewer people foregoing treatment because they can’t stand the idea of going further into debt which ultimately means that they die sooner than they should have. We’d have more people getting help for mental health issues. More people just simply being healthier and less stressed. We’d ultimately have a healthier and more educated society that can create some amazing change.
The whole being against socialized healthcare makes even less sense when you account for how many of these conservatives claim to be Christians. From my understanding of Jesus, he was anti-capitalistic. He hated the wealthy. He upturned tables of people selling things outside of synagogues. [Matthew 21:12-13] He said that it’s impossible for the wealthy to get into heaven. [Luke 18:25] He also says that you can’t serve God and money. [Matthew 6:24] The bible also says that those who oppress the poor man insults his Maker. [Proverbs 14:31] The Bible also talks against those who turn a deaf ear to the cries of the poor. [Proverbs 21:13]
“Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’” [Matthew 25:37-40]
Jesus literally went around healing people for free. Do you honestly want to tell me that he would have been for for-profit healthcare the way it is in the US now? Do you honestly think he’d be ok with giving tax cuts for the wealthy? Do you think that Jesus would approve of white supremacy? Do you think Jesus would approve of closing our doors? Do you think Jesus would approve of exploitation of labor? Can you honestly read Matthew 25:37-40 and believe that Jesus would approve of how Trump has handled Puerto Rico? Defending pedophiles?
He’d call a lot of conservatives idol worshipers and hypocrites. [Matthew 6:1, Matthew 6:5, John 8:4-9, Leviticus 26:1] Yet these same hypocrites cry about there being a war against Christmas, and “anti-Christian rights” (aka the right to discriminate against the LGBT community or force others to abide by their religious views). You want to be like Jesus? Start by taking care of the poor.
