The ground-breaking German-Swedish artist Lotte Laserstein (1898–1993) is one of the art world’s most exciting recent rediscoveries. “A Divided Life”, which is on view in the museum’s great Turbine Hall, is the largest exhibition of Laserstein’s work to date in the Nordic Region. https://www.modernamuseet.se/malmo/en/exhibitions/lotte-laserstein/ https://palianshow.wordpress.com/2024/11/28/lotte-laserstein/

In conversation among The Banana Splits on an otherwise predictably boring evening at some motel they're staying at on that Road Trip of Redemption
DROOPER, getting casual about it: I admit to having had a rather crazy dream the other night ... that we were heading for what we were told was Danger Island--
FLEEGLE, incredulously: You mean THE Danger Island as in that serial segment on our show back in the day?
DROOPER, continuing: --What else was implied? But at any rate, we turned up in what wasn't quite Danger Island, so to speak.
BINGO, excitedly chiming in like an excitable schoolboy: Actually, it turned out to be some Polynesian island we probably never knew about aside from Peter Potamus' books of his experiences in the uncharted reaches of Polynesia. One of those islands with grass and bamboo shacks and remarkably good-looking natives as were naked, and boy, were they anxious to have us as guests! And what's more, they wanted us to practically make love with them!
SNORKY: [Rather obvious honking, translated by Drooper as "You better believe it; those native gals just can't help be interested in lovemaking!"]
FLEEGLE: I just have to wonder where such notions come about, to begin with....
BINGO, adding some spice to the whole: And can you just imagine yours truly actually being lured by a dolphin into swimming and diving with her! No doubt much better than Bubbleland, when you get right down to it!
DROOPER: Obviously; Bubbleland was just sterile and aseptic concrete tanks which were never going to fit well with the dolphins anyway! And what's more, it probably feels better to be among dolphins in Nature, and to be appreciated by and of them up close and intimate like!
SNORKY: [Blatant honking which Drooper translated as "How else could this elephant want it?"]
BINGO: And you could just imagine this cute-looking native gal, the sort good enough to make love with, explaining how best to approach a dolphin so that he can feel deserving of your companionship ... and whwn I got around to rubbing this particularly friendly dolphin's belly in the shallows off this particular village where we landed, this gal was explaining that the dolphin was feeling rather delighted when it was remarking, as it were, "Awwww, I love you...."
FLEEGLE: Bingo, truer fantasies were never more imagined!
Emma returns to the pub after leaving the party, thankfully not getting lost on her way. Using the key, she enters and is greeted by Jason and Callum closing shop. They look up when she enters and she waves to them.
"How was yer party," Callum asks as he walks up to her.
She shrugs. "It was interesting. Not as much of a mess as I thought it was going to be at least."
"You got to see yer lad, though?"
Emma nods and smiles. "Yeah I did." She remembers his offer to secretly owl each other if she can't sleep and bites her lip. She really does love him.
Callum gives her a knowing look and then turns back to mopping up the floor as he says, "Well you probably want to get your rest. My da and I will be down here cleaning up and then making our way to bed."
Emma nods and heads up to her small room, sighing as she collapses onto the mattress. She's just happy she didn't get dragged into the partying. She knows it'll take her a good bit to fall asleep and she stares of the ceiling, just musing over this muggle trip.
A few minutes later there's a knock at her door and Callum's head pops around the door. "Mind if I come in?"
Emma nods and sits up on her mattress, leaving him room to sit down. He enters and curls his long legs up onto the bed.
"Anything on yer mind?" Callum asks.
Emma doesn't really know why he's being so friendly with her and reconsiders what James said earlier about Callum having a crush on her. Still, she wouldn't mind getting to know more about this muggle boy.
She shrugs and says, "Just a little homesick, I suppose. I've never been away from home or from school like this before. Not used to it."
"Where do you go to school?" he asks.
Already prepared for such a question, she answers, "It's a boarding school further away from here."
Callum nods and then thankfully lets that question drop. Instead he asks, "Do you miss yer bloke, Potter?"
Emma looks at him, unnerved that he would jump there so quickly. "I guess I do. We haven't really been apart like this before."
"You love 'im, don' yeh," he says, not really a question but Emma answers it anyway.
"Unfortunately, I do."
Callum looks at her curiously. "Unfortunately? Wha' yeh mean by that?"
With a sigh, Emma tries to explain her situation without dragging it through the muck. "James has been in love with another girl for years. He and I sort of started out as shag buddies before we fell for each other but I feel that even if he says he loves me, something is going to give one day in the future and I'll lose him to her."
"Oi, that is rough, Emma." Callum reaches over and gives her hand a squeeze before leaning back. "Why be with 'im if he wants another gal and yeh know it?"
Emma lets out a groan of frustration and pulls out the pillow from under her, pressing her face into it and screaming. She really doesn't want to hear yet another person tell her that she isn't worth James' love like Lily is. Then she feels a hand at hers, tugging at her.
"'ey, Emma," he says softly. She lowers the pillow to find him far closer to her now. "Don' worry. I just think you deserve someone who only loves you, yeh know?"
Emma shrugs and sighs. "Doesn't matter now. I love him and he loves me as well as he can. I'll take what I can get from him for as long as possible."
"Sorry Cal but I'm tired," she says as she yawns behind her hand. "Got another day of tending the bar tomorrow." She gives him a small smile.
Callum nods and stands. Before exiting, he turns to her and says, "'ey, gal. You and I should have a few drinks tomorrow before yeh 'ave teh leave."
"Sounds like a plan," Emma says as she rolls onto her side. She wants to write to James more now than ever. Yet again, she's reminded of things she prefers not to but Callum didn't know any better so she can't be angry at him for his words.
