The night has fallen, and the suffocating dark begins to seep into his bones. Cash sits by a rock he managed found, planting there after wandering in the fog for hours. He couldn’t reach the light, let alone find his way around this inexorcisable fog. Feeling helpless and alone, he stares into the abyss waiting for any sign of life. The air buzzes with whispers and distant screams, and he finds himself closing the ears. How is he supposed to help anyone else when he can’t even help himself?
“Casey? Are you feeling alright?” a soft voice makes his head snaps up. Someone stands right in front of him, hands on their knees, beaming at him with the familiar yet foreign smile-- an image he could only conjure from the distant memories. He swallows dryly, whispering the name “Ava?” It can’t be. Ava is supposed to be back in the world outside, hopefully happy and healthy-- but Cash jumps up to his feet and pulls her into an embrace as if he was possessed by the shadow of his past. “Look at you, all grown-up, but you’re still my softhearted boy” her voice speaks softly, just as he remembers. “I don’t feel like a grown-up.” He croaks as the tears run down his cheeks. “...I’m sorry, Ava. It’s all my fault-- I dragged Charles down with me. He could’ve been with you if it wasn’t for me. I’m sorry. I should’ve-- I should’ve drowned alone.”
