The world was evidently going to hell, people acting like their entire lives had fallen apart because they couldn't fly, do magic or whatever else it was they found themselves without that day with the void that had settled over town. It was getting tense, getting ugly, people were in various states of panic and something was about to break the collective sanity.
Personally May found it more entertaining than anything to actually worry about. It was a matter of perspective; his day was going so much better than some of the poor bastards running around freaking out. He couldn't help but wonder how these people functioned on a normal day if somebody flipping the magic switch had they all hot and bothered over it.
He was certain dead was still his current state of being, however that worked when apparently no other magic did was something May didn't really care enough to make sense of, so not much had changed in his world. No unrelenting ache in his stomach, no feel of decay under his skin, no actual worry that he was going to snap and get kicked out for turning the locals into lunch? Knowing that he had a tiny fraction of normality back, a sliver of distance from the horror story he lived every day? May missed his sight on the busted side but he sure didn't miss magic.
He'd had a front row seat much of the day, nice and comfortable in a grassy spot near the center of town, watching curiously while people hurried around. Half empty pizza box in his lap that he had every intention of finishing while he debated who was going to lose it first out of the people who came and went. Sure, he was practically unnaturally skinny but not for lack of ability to eat more than three people and he figured if he was going to watch the show he might as well make an afternoon of it.
The shadow that fell over him, distracting for an instant, brought a mutter of displeasure to his lips as he glanced over to see who had approached on his now blind side. It was a little obvious by the empty socket since he didn’t see much point in fighting with an eye that no longer functioned.
“Hey, you wanna back off a little? Sneaking up on people is rude.”
