arm outstretched and balancing upon the tips of her toes, kseniya’s height still falls mere inches short from the treetop. “ last time i’ll abuse your height, i promise ! it’s the most important part and i can’t reach it. ” she stumbles into flattened feet, handing him the crystal star. “ please ? ”

“ we finally made it to the theatre ! can you believe that was my first time seeing hamilton ? ” she links her arm into natalia’s. “ it was so different to what i’d expected. ”

the voice of the tour guide lulled into a muted hum when a particular work of rene magritte had kseniya compelled to take the seat across from it. evidently, her mind is elsewhere, as it takes a moment before she realises the bench is also occupied by someone she had very little desire to interact with. her glance flitters towards irena, but she is quick to divert her gaze back to the painting as she considers the risk of drawing her attention if she were to stand and leave seconds after seating herself.

she is russian for goodness’ sake. liquors were easily handled but there was something about beer that she couldn’t quite keep down. the pounding in her head is incredibly loud and distracting, but kseniya waves her hand dismissively, not wanting to draw attention. her brows are furrowed in concentration, as if tensing her forehead will somehow dissipate the pulsating headache. she buries her head between her knees, hoping it will block out some of the noise. “ i hate beer, ” she slurs.

“ we’re here for us, i know— ” the number of items that were already being packaged spoke to that. “ —but can we just talk about this ? ” kseniya lifts the baby fendi onesie, a small pout on her lips. “ it comes with a tiny beanie too ! and in pink. do you know if you’re having a girl ? ”
