Hey, just want to say I love your blog and it gives me great joy but I do want to point out that the post you reblogged starting with "Yemen is the poorest nation in the Arab world" has a reblog under it that has a huge antisemitic dog whistle! In general anything talking about "shadow" or "puppet" global conspiracies are antisemitic, particularly if it's talking about the UN. I figured you wouldn't want something like that on here so I thought you should know! Also people have pointed out that there is a possibility that the charity that is linked may not be completely legitimate...

How much of temperament is inherited in dogs? We owned a mother/daughter pair of collies when I was a kid. The mother, Stormy, was a show dog and was the sweetest, most well behaved dog we ever had. Her daughter Terry was a nervous mess who hated being brushed and nipped everyone but me. "Bred for beauty not brains". Terry also frequently locked herself in the bathroom. Which she barely fit in anyways.

So was that training, random or genetic?

Ah, the age old question of nature vs nurture. A dog's behavior is a complex combination of genetics, socialization, environment, training, and other external factors. There isn't necessarily a breakdown of how much of each is involved. The temperament of a puppy's parents is a good indicator for the puppy's likely adult temperament, but it's not foolproof. There are so many factors that can affect a dog's temperament and behavior. Even a stressful pregnancy increases the likelihood of reactivity in puppies. If it was only one factor or another, we wouldn't have dogs bred for fighting (i.e. the Vick dogs) that were able to be integrated into society so successfully, and we also wouldn't have dogs raised with all the love and knowledge that anyone family can offer that still end up dangerously aggressive. It's a very complex issue and unfortunately there's no good answer.

You will LOVE Princess Tutu. It's an anime about a duck (named Duck) who gets turned into a human girl by the author of a fairytale, to finish his story after his death. Duck can turn into a magical girl ballerina, Princess Tutu, to save Prince Mytho by giving him pieces of his heart back. She does this by using dance to soothe the powerful emotions the pieces evoke. A big theme is rewriting the story that was told for you. There is so much meta and it's a story about stories!

Hi I was wondering if there were any places in Canada doing a program similar to the STAR program in Denver, Colorado (USA)? The program sends mental health professionals (and sometimes other kinds of non-police officials I think) to certain calls instead of police. It's still in a pilot phase but the initial results seem promising, and I think it could be applied other places. So I was wondering if anyone was already working on that?

Hey so normally I try not to offer unsolicitated advice but I wanted to know more about tea and histamines so I started googling- and apparently there is a tea called benifuuki which REDUCES histamine. There was a scientific study, which is the only reason I mention it. Study name if you're interested: In vitro and in vivo anti-allergic effects of ‘benifuuki’ green tea containing O-methylated catechin and ginger extract enhancement.
