poor poor everett
Dean: Right? So, picture this-- you and me at the pool bar, sippin' on martinis, the whole place to ourselves.
Ev: Okay, it sounds great.
Dean: Even better, the bottom of the pool opens up, and the water starts to feel like a hot tub.
Ev: Can't it feel like a hot tub without the pool opening up?
Dean: No. Cuz then the pool is gonna, like, open up. And a huge mech is gonna pop through it.
Ev: L-like in those cartoons?
Dean: Just like in the cartoons. They're called Anime by the way
Ev: Why did we have to be at the pool bar? Everyone'll drown because of a huge robot coming out of the pool.
Dean: I just wanted to put a pool bar and a mech together. But you're the guy with the money.
Ev: You want me to build a huge robot??
Dean: Yeah.
i could never delete you daddy
"Papa bought me this for my birthday!" Sandy presented her teddy bear dressed in a mechanic outfit with a cotton wrench sewn into his hand. "I named her Mecchie!" She beamed.
Everett chuckled, his poor heart blooming. How could someone this cute come out of a monster like Gigi? How did Dean deal with this? He didn't want to imagine the nightmare of being called up for parenthood when you found out your crazy ex gave birth to your child in prison.
"Does Mecchie like fixing up cars like your Papa? Or does she like racing, like you do?"
"She's best friends with Lightning McQueen!" She ran over to her toy box and pulled out a small racecar. "They go all over the world, and then Mecchie and Ka-Chow build a rocket ship!" Then she added in a quieter voice, "but I haven't made the rocket ship yet."
"Do you want to build it?" Everett asked. "I have lots of cardboard and can buy us some supplies."
Her big steel violet eyes went wide, and her smile even wider. "Yaaaay!!! Let's build a rocket!! And Papa can come mod it!!"
Everett chuckled. It was so hard to not grin at how excited she was. "Well, let's get to work!"
“Do you like this one?” Everett put up a semi-blurry photo of a clownfish. It seemed like the camera wanted to focus more on the sea weed. Not only that, but it was a bit sideways. “I like his little eyes.” he said of the clownfish, pointing to them.
“I like it,” Dean nodded, lifting his sunglasses to note the colors. “did ya name him Meno?”
“Meno?”
“Like from the movie?”
“Nemo?”
Dean snapped his fingers and smiled. “Ring-a-ding, darlin’, that’s what I meant.”
Everett back and gave him a soft look, then shifted his focus to the picture. He put it in the ‘frame’ pile. Then he came across photos of seaweed, which were discarded. Though, Dean took it upon himself to look through the ‘discard’ pile. Lots of blurry pictures of clownfish. One of a too-close fish he couldn’t name.
“What’s this one called?” Dean asked.
“Oh, that one? I think it was a Horse-eye Jack.”
“That sounds like you made that up. I don’t know enough about fish to question you, though.” He put the picture of the fish in his frame pile. “What about this one? It looks like a mango.”
“That’s a Spanish Hogfish! I took that one on my last trip. You can keep that one too, if you want.”
“Why’d you throw it out? Lil’ mango-head’s cute.”
“Because the picture’s out of focus. This one’s better.” he showed a picture of the fish that looked like it was out of a Discovery magazine.
“Tell you what. You give me all your scrap pictures, and I’ll keep ‘im in a shoebox.”
Everett smiled. “Alright.”
