n o t e ; perhaps this is my late night brain dump bc i’ve been listening to everlasting shine all day and this is me attempting to embody the feeling that song gives me </3 i hope y’all enjoy this tiny drabble!

THE EARTH WAS DAMP BENEATH YOUR BACK, WET GRASS TICKLING AGAINST THE EXPOSED SKIN OF YOUR THIGHS AS YOU LAID OUT BENEATH THE STARS IN YOUR GARDEN.

The chirping of crickets and the distant rush of creek water flowing over stones filled your ears. One by one, as if on cue, fireflies began to blink to life all around, glowing yellow and green against the dark sky. The bright pinks and reds of the flowers that surrounded you were less vibrant in the nighttime, but that didn’t matter—the plant life was not the main attraction of your garden that evening.

Because when you turned your head to the side, your eyes were met with Choi Soobin, who held whole constellations in his starry eyes and all the magic in the world within his smile. You were surprised to see that he was already staring at you, rather than the night sky you were both supposed to be looking at. His blue hair fanned around him as he laid beside you, the back of his hand brushing against yours until he threaded your fingers together, locking you in his grip.

You couldn’t help but giggle when he rubbed his thumb back and forth against the back of your hand. He laughed too, his eyes turning to crescent moons, his nose scrunching up.

“What is it?” He asked quietly.

“Nothing,” you replied as you inches closer to him, your shoulders pressing into one another now as his grip on your hand grew tighter. “We’re supposed to be stargazing, Soobin. Why are you staring at me?”

He smiled again, dimples creasing into his cheeks as he brought his hand over to cup your face, his thumb lightly tracing the curve of your cheekbone. His touch sent fire through your veins, causing your breath to catch in your throat.

“Because you’re beautiful.”

His eyes searched yours for a moment, his playful smile growing gentler, more observant. He slowly leaned forward, the tips of his fingers brushing into your hair as he carefully allowed his lips to capture yours. His arm slid beneath you, curving around your waist as he gently pulled you closer. You brought your hands up to rest against his chest as his lips moved against yours, electricity striking throughout your veins like shooting stars. His kiss sent you spiraling through galaxies, but his hands against your skin, his heart beating against the palm of your hand, the gentle exhale against your lips as he pulled away for air—these things kept you grounded. He was the excitement of worlds unexplored, yet the comfort of something familiar.

He was otherworldly, but he was also home.

Your eyes fluttered open to stare into his when he broke the kiss, adoration in your gaze as he gave you a gentle smile, his thumb brushing across your damp lips.

“Thank you. For loving me,” you said quietly, your arms wrapping around his waist as you snuggled into his chest.

He pulled you even tighter against him, tucking your head beneath his chin.

“Thank you,” he mumbled, pressing a kiss against the top of your head. “For letting me love you.”
