Honestly it's hard being an anime fan, considering how many big creators either do not watch an anime that isn't trending on twitter, or seemingly despise anime and their fans and simply want to profit off the community while viewing us all as degenerate "pdf-files" who deserve to die.

Like the amount of "anime influencers" I've seen where 90% of their content is "If you like *insert anime here* you're a pervert/pedophile/degenerate and shouldn't be allowed on the internet." pisses me off. Especially when they turn around and try to market to the same communities they just insulted by going "By the way if you like *insert popular anime here*, buy my book/comic/manga!". Like you want My Hero fans to die cause we're a bunch of braindead perverts, but you also want us to buy your book.

Or ones who will wax poetic about the "degeneracy" in anime, while owning merch from anime with that shit. Like I remember seeing a creator who made a video shitting on lolicon, while having a fucking Monogatari figure in the background. And the fact that when they were called on it, pretty much said that they haven't seen the animes 90% of their merch is from and doesn't even do a google search on it. Which would just make me roll my eyes if they didn't have multiple videos where they motioned towards their collection as some indication that they're a huge anime fan.

Like I hate being a gatekeeper, I want to make friends in the anime community, I want more people to like anime. But so many big names in the community seemingly hate anime or don't watch it. But want to act like they know everything. Like c'mon, can we not platform people who self admit to either hating anime or not watching it as these gods of the anime community.

Like I'm not saying you have to like lolicon or incest or anything like that. Just please don't talk about shit you don't understand.

I've been out of the anime community for about four or five years now. I hated the anime fandoms I was in and I needed a break.

But now I come back to it because of Blue Lock, Gachiakuta, Chainsaw Man, The Summer Hikaru Died...and it sucks even worse than it did when I left.

These fucking kids have no concept of fandom etiquette or even human decency. They attack real people over things that we all used to take for granted as totally normal. Maybe not to our tastes, but normal, more or less.

Now they argue constantly over fucking "problematic toxic relationships" and ages.

like toxic relationships in fiction aren't new. they're fictional. that's what makes the toxicity interesting and fun.

And oh, you can't ship a 17 year old and an 18...really? you fucking dumbass? Like there's any country in the world that's gonna prosecute an 18 year old for hooking up with a 17 year old (based entirely on age alone, anyway)?

They're also like oh, you have a crush on Naruto and you're over the age of 18? What a fucking PEDOPHILE.

Kids are horny. I hate that you had to find out like this. But people struggle with sexual urges and hormones long before adults are fucking comfortable with it. you need to have these uncomfortable conversations sometimes. that's part of the human experience unfortunately.

All of this fucking reeks of fascist censorship and moral outrage over anything even vaguely sexual, btw. like the hatred of sexual themes, calling everything gooner slop. being terrified of seeing a boob, no matter what the context.

And the amount of dumb fucking anime fans I've seen making a big fucking spectacle of how they no longer have a crush on "child" characters because they turned 18... oh my god, you're a real fucking moron.

But worse than stupid people, whom I can maybe forgive because of declining literacy rates and the decay of quality education across the world as they install their fascist regimes, is the clout farmer.

These people are NOT fans of anime. They are fucking liars. They're using a popular, trendy thing to get attention so you'll buy their stupid T-shirts. Influencers are a true plague on mankind and on art, I'm telling you.

They don't LIKE the thing they talk about. They just want to leech over an ACTUAL artist's work and present themselves as an artist. You aren't one. You're a grifter.

You say the most dogshit things no matter how dogshit they are.

I HATE how fandom discourse is riddled with woke vs problematic themes, because most of them are braindead and media illiterate. they're just parroting the words of others. but it's worse when someone pretends to write theories and headcanons, but they're just trying to say the most inflammatory thing possible to get as much engagement as possible.

That's why fandom discourse is in the fucking pits today. Not just the media illiteracy, but the desperate need for attention.

No one just fucking "likes" something anymore.

Now it has to be a spectacle of how much you like something.

It's profitable.

Clout farming anime fans because it's profitable and not because you actually care about the thing.

I miss when anime was some weird niche freak thing that people gave you weird looks for looking at.

The worst thing is, anime was always weird, and these normies act so superior.

Insisting fan artists who draw art of Itadori and Megumi making out are "fetishizing" and perverted.

I HATE what fandom has become, and it's much worse with anime, since a lot of popular anime are aimed at teenage boys, the dumbest and meanest demographic, alongside their desperate attention whoring female classmates.

it's just so incredibly frustrating and ridiculous.

I don't think it's gatekeeping. I think the door was wide open and too many people stormed the community and left it in tatters.
