So imagine, if you will, the very first session of a Star Wars the Old Republic-era Sith D&D game. Four newbies brought to Korriban who have to race other groups across a canyon (and through a tomb to grab some cool artefacts to make the instructors like you, if you so desire).
The group is three extremely competent Mandalorians, and one dumbass musician who got themselves in a bit of a pickle. But the four of you make really good time and have some wiggle room to explore the tomb and try to find good loot.
And imagine one of the Mandalorians is a beast master with a large slug alien which scares away all the smaller slugs you would’ve had to fight on the first floor of the temple. And on the second floor right before you loot an untouched sith armory and then book it out the nearby exit, you have your only fight of the session.
Four ancient droids. Sure, they’re not at full strength anymore, but you’re all level 1. This is going to be at least a bit of a fight, right?
And imagine only one of the Mandalorians is even IN the room with the droids, and the singer is first in initiative, and the only way they can really assist is if they get in front of the Mandalorian who has a shield and a weapon to cast force lightning and then hope that their new friends don’t decide to stab them in the back or something.
....anyway that’s the story of how in session one, a Twi’lek named Veri with absolutely no useful combat training one-shot the entire encounter before any of the actualfax Mandalorians they were with could even get a hit in.
