Evermarch + A and B have not seen each other in a while and refuse to leave each other's side when they meet up again, even for little things like grabbing a snack from the kitchen.
Burdock flings the door open when he sees me coming up the path, smile wide on his face. “I didn’t know if I would see you today!”
“My father doesn’t know I’m here, he thinks I’m sitting with Merilee,” I call running into his open arms. He swiftly catches my mouth in a kiss before lifting me and spinning me off the ground. He puts me down with one more kiss, whispering “I missed you.” He looks over my shoulder and down the street, “if your Pa doesn’t know you’re here, we should go inside.”
It’s a shame because it’s a nice evening, but I have to agree. My father wasn’t best pleased when he found out I was dating Burdock. I don’t want any trouble to come Burdock’s way, so I slip in the house after him.
“Ma is out,” he tells me as he guides me to his worn and lump couch. He takes my waist in his hands and kisses me again, hot and hasty. More eager this time. We pull apart to catch our breaths. “Hi,” he says finally grinning and rubbing his nose against mine.
“Hi.” Oh yes, I love him. That much is clear. My heart flutters under his silver gaze. I could stay looking at him forever. Burdock has other ideas though and shifts to stand up.
“Are you hungry?” he asks, “I have a rabbit, freshly caught this morning.”
“I could eat,” I say, but pout when he makes his way over to the kitchen. I rise from the couch and wrap my arms around his middle, “I don’t want to be apart though.”
“One day, we’ll never have to be apart again,” he tells me, taking my chin in his hand and giving me one final soft kiss before he begins preparing the rabbit.
I don’t let go of him though. He throws his head back in laughter at my determination to be right by his side. “If you told 13 year old me Asterid March would be stuck to my side like this, he’d have fainted right on the spot!”
I smile into the kisses I run along his neck and his jaw, “and if you had told 13 year old me that she was in love with Burdock Everdeen, she’d have called you a liar.”
“It’s nice to be in love, isn’t it?” he pours the rabbit into a boiling pot, I grab a spoon and stand at his side stirring while he adds the vegetables and herbs.
“It makes everything worth it,” I agree.
