Sesame Street - Everybody Sleeps - I've had insomnia since I was about 8 years old (that's also the year I started getting fat and my depression kicks in, I'm sure they're all related) and have tried every damn trick in the book to achieve sleep. One of the most effective soothers is this one: as a grown-ass 35-year-old lady who pays bills and takes care of budgets and goes to work every day, I have been, lately, falling asleep by searching the brand-new Youtube channel on my Roku and finding the perfect Sesame-Street based sleepytime song to soothe me. A couple nights ago it was the one where Bert sings about imagination to Ernie, and Ernie imagines balloons cascading down endlessly. Before that, I found the scratchy record of my childhood, "Sleepytime Bird", is available in its entirety on Spotify. That's the same record that put me to sleep as a two-year-old. Last night it was "One Little Star" from "Follow That Bird". And tonight it's gonna be this. Because I'm a grown-ass 35-year-old lady and sometimes a grown-ass 35-year-old lady needs an old man in a giant yellow bird suit to sing me to sleep.
