Thank you for asking such a good question, @everydaydeeds ! So I haven't had to buy meat products as I've only been living "alone" for a year, and my meal plan usually covers my meat eating habits. But I am also an omnivore zero waster! So here are two non-answers to your question: You can cut back on you/your household's meat consumption! Instead of cooking a full piece of meat, cook 3/4ths of a full piece, so then you're making the same amount last a little bit longer, therefore producing less waste. Of course, replace it with protein rich vegetables or fruits, so that you're getting the full set of nutrients! The second non-answer is to buy meat in bigger portions. It'll use less packaging, and then you can place the meat into air-tight glass or stainless steel containers. You can then store them in a freezer, so it stays fresher longer. I only have one true answer, but may or may not be plausible based on your current situation. You can bring those airtight glass/stainless steel containers to the butcher and ask for them to simply put the meat straight into the container! Although it may take a bit longer and require talking to one more person on your long day of errands, it's a solution for purchasing meat on a zero waste lifestyle!
