Nigel Peakes - Shapes
connecting and finding patterns within different scenes. I like the way that the photographs are so easily visually connected while still remaining entirely different images.

These are the last set of photos I have taken and include the final images I used. I find myself inspired by these much more due to the loud colours and interesting shapes and lines. the colours are what mostly draw me to them though and I've realised again how much I enjoy neon and bright colours.
unfortunately the image of the pictures in the makeshift gallery have been lost but the chosen images can be found together on box. it was really interesting to see the difference in everyone's images and how different people edited the things they saw. Kingston is relatively small so it is also intriguing to see what other people found that didn't catch my eye, and how I should maybe be more observant or investigate more. my favourite pieces were the ones that had a narrative which mine did not, so if I was ever to do this again I would want to incorporate that.
With more photos taken I found it easier to create connections. (the photos are all on the original photo post). However I still feel uninspired in this project. before the final lesson where we will have a mini gallery exhibition I will likely try and take entirely new photos to try and make this project more engaging for me. that being said it is interesting wat connections I can make with the images I have and I feel that this can be good inspiration for later projects.
Putting images together in different sets and finding the connections between them. I definitely need to take more pictures in order for this process to be easier. I found it a struggle to make arrangements when asked to use more than three images. I do feel that I have confirmed my like for line and colour. the vivid green of the avocado really appeals to me, as does the image of the of the white radish with its lines creating a pattern. I will take some more photos before the next lesson.
Photos taken for everyday connections. I found myself interested in a variety of different topics, most notably colour and line. Lots of the images that I like feature a strong line that leads your eye through the image. I think the connections between them will become clearer as I continue through the project and pick up on what I like in an image.
(apologies for the long post full of images, I was unable to find how to rearrange them - an edit for later I believe)
Editing
What is editing?
-removal of images/aspect of images to improve the work left behind
- correcting, conducting or otherwise modifying it
- avoid anything that would jar
One piece puzzle – problem solving in an image
Two piece puzzle – diptych/pairing, sequence, before and after, comparative/dialogue.
Three piece puzzle – triptych/trinity, sequence (beginning, middle, end)
Multipiece puzzle – sequence, complex, fluid/evolving, multidirectional.
Typology, chronology and connections.
Typology – grouping by likeness, similarities, types. (nigel peakes – bridges)
Chronology – time order (ed russcha)
Continuity – (mark power the sound of two soungs Poland 2004-2009
Final outcome of the Everyday Connections Project
After many iterations, my final piece used the methods of typology and continuity to create a row of birds, molded together with the grey skies and the continuing line that passes through each image. This then comes in contrast with the warmer image of the statue of Mary below. By having this contrast and placing this image here, I am suggesting how these birds could be observing the statue, perhaps in an authoritarian manner. I believe this piece evokes a dystopian, Orwellian idea in which these birds have taken control of our world.
