Breaking a Wall || Chase & Toy
Coming here was a stupid idea. That word replays on repeat in his mind like a melody, chiming stupid, stupid, stupid, but he had talked himself into it and passed several points of no return already. Maybe he should’ve stopped and thought about what he was doing when he made the batter for the pristine chocolate cake in his hands, prepared so meticulously, he left dismal room for imperfection. Maybe he should’ve stopped at the doorway of the MinuteMart, turned around and went home, but here he is now in all his stupid glory.
Chase has been staring at a sandwich wrapped in plastic for the last five minutes, deliberating on whether he should ask for Toy or just leave and pretend he was never there. People are staring to stare. He’s given at least three people the evil-eye. Maybe he should just give up.
Exhaling slow, Chase tries to unwind some of the tension from his shoulders, feeling the knots in his muscles ache when he moves. The tupperware container in his hands feels heavier and heavier the longer the holds it, and after stuffing his pride back inside, he’s offering it to a cashier in the hopes she’ll pass it on.
“Could you give this to Toy?” He mumbles, awkward and embarrassed without ever having faced him. “Just... tell him Chase came by.”
