Are people still talking about The Stanley Parable?
I think the game is pretty amazing and it sends my mind reeling every time I encounter it, however last night for the first time I encountered The Beginners Guide and although it's vastly different it's still completely mind bending.
I don't except anyone to see this or even respond OR Even care but something struck me about the door puzzle in The Beginers Guide, a parallel to The Stanley Parable... but I can't decide if there's actually something to this or if I'm reading too much into it.
The puzzle it's self is simple but as the story goes on it becomes quite a prevelent part, there is a lever next to the door that opens it, inside the door is a void space and another door, to open the next door you must close the first door, to close the first door you must use the same lever outside of the door that you used to open it, after using this lever you are trapped in the void space between 2 doors, the door you came through can never be opened again however the next door can be opened by using a lever on the back of the first door (that can't be seen if the door is open) after which in the Begginers Guide sometimes you find a lamppost, a light at the end of the tunnel if you will... but the light only means something to one out of two people, to Davey it means hope a beacon something to strive for a destination, to Coda it doesn't matter it's insignificant because it was never supposed to be there, the lamppost doesn't work the way Davey wanted it to because only he is on board with the idea.
Writing this I am starting to think damn there is actually more to this than I thought... at first I thought it was just how he door worked but it's actually more.
Where I'm referring to this parallel would be The Stanley Parable's escape pod ending.
On this run Stanley follows The Narrator up the bosses office, he must enter the room then quickly leave before the doors shut, this represents having to go through the door then flipping the switch to close it locking you out of that area (though slightly different), after this happens The Narrator is gone, deactivated, you have to walk back to the beginning of the game in silence, this represents the the void between the two doors and if The Narrator being deactivated isn't enough you literally have to walk into the dark and climb a dark stair case up to another dark room, all of which can be interpreted as the void, in this dark room the escape pod emerges, a light at the end of the tunnel, though again this only matters to one person, Stanley, to him it is a possibility to escape the loop trick the game into being freed but it means nothing to The Narrator because he isn't there, since the escape pod only works if Stanley and The Narrator are both present it doesn't work, only Stanley is on board
Like I said I could just be clutching at straws and there might be nothing in it but if there is it's quite something, if you've read this I hope it makes sense as I just put thoughts down as they come hoping that others will understand what I'm trying to convey
