Because I had some miscellaneous thoughts on Dilwale songs, and they got too big for the other post.
Janam Janam is nearest and dearest to my heart, bc it’s the first song I actually heard, but I LOVE IT. not just the meaning “of be in my life, please stay in my life”, but I love the black and white, and this shade of royal blue that both saturates the light and the clothes they both wear.
Specifically died over the ‘talab talab talab’ line for how it is sung, the choreography as Kaali marches up the steps toward Meera, and what the actual translation is (according to the internet, something like talab = desire; so this bit plus the lyric after means “you’re the only thing I crave” which is just really interesting)
Gahhhh and the singer does this vocalization of PURE LONGING I AM SO HERE FOR IT
Manma Emotion Jaage took some time to grow on me, but now 10/10 would dance to it. Also, I love the shot of Ishita flicking her hair, and I’m weirdly into the denim harem pants look
Like the choreography feels a little too low energy for the actual beat of the song? So at first it seemed a little slowed down
But I loved seeing all of the souped up cars at the very beginning, and all of the images are very fun
Gerua is soooooo pretty! Apparently this was the first song to be released from the movie?
Iceland is so pretty and otherworldly, and I’m delighted that the rainbows were all real, because they really, really don’t look real!
The coloring of their clothes is so nice, and Meera’s black-and-orange dress is very ‘apocalyptic goddess and the last man on earth woos her’ vibe. especially around the wreckage of a plane and an old sailboat.
This is their main love song, and it’s so interesting that there is this undercurrent of aching under it? Like they are worried about slipping out of each other’s hands, which might not be tied as much to the meaning, but as someone who does not know the language, that’s the vibe I got.
Daayre is so melancholy, but fits the mood for all four relationships and how the pairs of siblings lean on each other and the pain they’re suffering being apart from their beloveds
Tukur Tukur is fun and goofy and a great cap to the movie. I kind of wish Shah Rukh Khan kept his beard though for it (it looks good on him! plus continuity!)
