Terms of Disservice

I guess you can thank the Roman Holidays for getting me back into Hanna-Barbera again!

Had nothing to do yesterday, and it came to me to draw these two. A lot of folks who saw it thought it was The Flintstones, and I basically told them that this is Flintstones but in Rome. Which accurately sums up the entirety of the Roman Holidays, lol XD

This show does have its faults…but I’d have to say these two aren’t one of them.

Make no mistake, Evictus is a MAJOR butthole, but is also a majorly entertaining butthole. He’s a combination of Mr. Krabs and Mr. Spacely, minus the worst qualities of Krabs (or at least, the show didn’t get to showcase them, seeing as it was so short), but adding on the annoying, micromanaging personality of Spacely. Add the hammy performance of Dom DeLuise as Evictus, and it’s a perfect mix of a character that you want to punch, but you also laugh at when he disses other characters and revels in his own pettiness.

As for Gus, he’s pretty blasé in comparison to the loudmouth Fred and the frantic George, but I kinda like that about him. I do admit that in senes where he’s trying to do the whole “madcap scheme” angle that Fred did, it did fall flat, but it was pretty funny to watch everything blow up in his face. Oh, and as I explained in a previous post, he has the perfect “I’m 100% over your shit” face that gets displayed throughout the show several times, which I made note to draw one time, and draw it I did. I might end up becoming “that one Gus Holiday fan” LOL XD

I used an official render for doodling Evictus, while Gus I took from one screenshot where he’s glaring at a tailor who straight up calls him fat XD I wanted to convey the “keep talking, and I’ll add murder to my list of crimes” relationship that these two have—although “if looks could kill you’d be dead ten times over” also works. There is ONE episode where they kinda set aside their differences…but personally, I love this animosity that they have, haha! And since I didn’t like the flesh-colored sclera that they gave them, I gave them normal whites, with hazel eyes for Evictus and dark green for Gus. Turned out quite nice, actually!
