"Should start gettin' used to it, sweetheart." The aptly named Wasteland was no place to live, not cleanly, at least. It was in itself a miracle that people continued surviving, persistent pests that they were—that he was, too. Everywhere they walked, something or the other looked to corrupt whatever was left of humanity. Now, they were all beasts, that much was basically mandatory.
"Only thing we got certain around here is that anything'll fuck you up one way or the other." The river might as well be glowing green, the way it hogged so much toxicity in it. Purifying even part of it would take up too much time to even bother, so no one did bother—not for others, at least.
