List of suspects so far (based on who could have gotten into the locked building on a Sunday morning and decided to steal a package obviously containing a used book):

1. Someone else who lives in the apartment making a bad decision

2. A maintenance worker who really wanted a new book to read and didn’t care which book it was or how serious a crime he had to commit to get it right then and there

3. An experienced thief whose breaking-in-and-entering skills are good, but ability to select a valuable target are terrible

4. A chaotic evil mail delivery person who just wants to watch the world burn

5. A magically-endowed reality warper with inscrutable motives

6. An evil doppelganger trying to replace me. She will show up in class the day we start discussing the book with my stolen copy and will command the class discussion with an ease and charisma far outweighing my own. Everyone in class will fall in love with her and come to despise me, the original for my flaws, which are now painfully visible by contrast with the perfect double.
