People are discovering the horrors of demanding RCTs for medical purposes today and I just want to say that there's demands to use it for development/poverty alleviation interventions such as direct cash distribution and there's only (to my knowledge) one extensive investigation in the semi-popular press (1843 magazine) into how devastating this can be to communities, yet cannot bring itself to commit to the fact that this is deeply unethical. No point of comparison etc, just that I have a lot of feelings about how people think they can just play with lives like this in the name of "testing for science". Perhaps what we consider acceptable scientific methods need to be deeply reevaluated when it comes to the context of human lives.
