evil-sherlock-holmes replied to your post: My first mary-sue and story, was 300+ pages, written 90% in dialog, and was a Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time/InuYasha/Fire Emblem(sort of, it only had very OOC Roy and Marth.) Cross over mess. I think most of the characters were created by me however, and I even put two characters for my two friends at the time into the story, just because they wanted to be paired with people. It took me a year too write and I wrote it in grade 6 :3
the trick to writing dialogue-driven stories is knowing how to keep people’s interest with dialogue.
Writing needs a mix of dialogue and action when it's not a script for a number of reasons. Clarity, for one. 90% dialogue didn't work for me because it was so unclear and, with so little action outside of the dialogue, it was harder for people to focus on when they were reading it. It didn't paint the picture for them. And I was telling, not showing, which is an annoying phrase sometimes, but it does make a considerable difference in writing quality.
