Life series inktober day 6: Portal
I think it’s really interesting that the season where Skizz had some of the worst luck he’s ever had, is the same season where he made it his mission to spread positivity and kindness.
The second he started to introduce the idea to Scott in the first episode, Scott killed him before he could finish. And then Bdubs killed him DIRECTLY after. Specifically, he was slain by the boogeyman, the most direct force of the chaos of the Life Series.
The watchers are known to feed on chaos and suffering, so I wonder if they specifically targeted Skizz because he made it his mission to make everyone happier. Skizz has always died third. But this time, he died second. Arguably that’s as early as you can die if you’re not Jimmy.
And at the end of it all, did he go out trying to get more time? No, he gave up his last life so his team could continue. He did an excellent job of defying the nature of the games, even if he might have been taken out because of it.

okay wanda i had the world's busiest weekend so i was just staring at this ask for like a few days but YESSSS!
i'm always so happy when anything happens to reinforce jimmy's status as a listener/listener-aligned xD so many people forget my boy. Also, not to be someone who keeps bringing things back to my own fanfics, but it really reminded me of my Listener!Jimmy fic from last year where the Listeners spoke in Jimmy's head the entire time. Like hmm, maybe that's just something they can do,
Also, I like that Grian couldn't see Jimmy. Remember he was confused in the beginning that Jimmy could see him despite not appearing on the tab list? Spectators show up on the tab list normally. Jimmy didn't appear on the list and Grian was like, "I don't think you can see me" until Jimmy started saying what he was doing. Jimmy was logged on in spectator mode, but he was vanished which removed him from the list. Which of course is how the task had to be done, or else anyone on the server could've hit tab and seen that Jimmy was online for some reason. But I also think that's just. very interesting, within the world of the story. Grian's a Watcher but he couldn't see the Listener.
That's fun to me. Do their powers sort of conflict/cancel out? Can their powers hide them from view? Idk but it's fascinating to think about. Also, totally right with the Listener who has to Watch and the Watcher who has to Listen. I'm fond of thinking of Watchers and Listeners as very very similar, and I feel like this just sort of reinforced the idea that they're sides of the same coin or something.
Also it's fun that in-universe calling someone on discord is considered "using ethereal means to set up communication" LOL. jimmy's using magic to talk to grian, confirmed
"I know EVO lore from watching Martyn!" "I know EVO lore from fanon!" I know EVO lore from WATCHING EVO all jokes aside, I heavily reccomend watching EVO to get a bit more of a feel for EVO lore! espesc since there are some surprises that you might not have gotten from fanon ;) but seriously, EVO can be pretty long, but I'd say its worth it! (I watched Jimmy's, since he was there from beginning to end and his is really funny AND not super lorey but just enough lorey)
