8: ooooh bed sharing. it's about the tension and the pining and the awkward accidental touches and then waking up half cuddling and panicking about how the other person will react. good stuff.

13: interestingly i wouldn't normally write either exes or established relationship, but i've just finished the orchid (established) and i might start writing the chansung i mentioned to honey which is exes... in terms of reading though i'm more likely to read exes. there's a good angst mine in trying to sort out what went wrong before and whether you could ever fix it.

18: not much of a routine these days! i scrape in writing time where i can to be honest. i used to always sit down and make a cup of tea first. maybe i should start doing that again.

19: favourite character headcanon... i guess i tend to write chan very soft. i rarely write Leader Chan Who Knows What He's Doing, it's always Soft Chan Who Needs His Friends.

ooh, i'll have to go with roommates - they're around more often, and there's still the possibility for bed sharing, but it's even more exciting when it finally happens!

oh fake dating definitely.

ooh, this is a tough one! i think maybe i'll go for mutual pining, but it's a very close thing.

childhood friends! the idea of having known someone for so long that it's practically impossible to extricate your pasts from each other's... love that.

not really! i'll check the tags when i have the chance, and then read a fic whenever i have the free time to do so. writing's much the same - whenever i have a moment, although i like to do it before 4am because that's when the writing bot starts a new day and these days i'm enjoying having an uninterrupted daily writing streak haha.

1: things that inspire you

anything really! i get inspiration from pretty much anywhere; books, movies, something i learned in class, a random building on the road; really just anywhere.

2: things that motivate you

i will be honest, these days it's mostly just hoping that other people will say nice things about my stories when they're done. it's been a fair bit since i put a new fic out and i'm craving Engagement sdflgdf.

3: name three favorite writers

ooh, that's a tough one. i have loads of favourite authors, but i'll go with Diana Wynne Jones, an all-time favourite (the way she writes fantasy is amazing), and then recently i'm really enjoying erin morgenstern and maggie stiefvater (the things they do with words are incredible)!

8: what time are you most productive?

these days it's around 10PM-1AM! i don't like to write until i'm done with all my work, but i've honestly been having a bit of a Term and i'm quite slow at things now. i've made it to the holidays, though, thank god, and i hope that now that i have time to breathe i might be able to not leave writing to the very end of the day anymore.

9: do you set yourself deadlines?

just very soft ones! it's more that i'll be like "oh i should finish this in around a month" and then either i do or i don't. it's been years since i set myself an Actual writing deadline sfdhdfsl.

17: favorite AU to write

of all my published ones, i've got to say sir seungmin - i just had so much fun writing it, and enjoyed every single moment of it.

18: favorite pairing to write

ooh, this is a tough one! i'll write pretty much any pairing, it just depends on the vibe of the story. i don't think i have a favourite, really.

30: hardest part of writing

probably actually sitting down and writing! these days i'm so tired and i don't have much time at all, and by the end of the day sometimes i just don't have the brainpower, so actually getting words out on the paper, so to speak, is really daunting.

31: easiest part of writing

these days it's editing dshlgdsfdfs it requires less brainpower and is something i don't have to think too hard about.

38: do you reread your own stories?

i used to! i don't have much time right now, but when i do then i love to reread my own stuff because! i wrote that for me! it's full of things i enjoy!

49: writing advice

not to sound incredibly redundant but. just do it sdgjgdfds. if you sit down and write then that's it! you're writing! you're learning and you're doing and that's really the most important thing. don't worry about doing it well, just focus on doing, and then with practice you'll get better anyway.

5: i’ve been writing stories in general since i was about six? my sister started writing stories, and obviously i had to copy her, and then i just... never stopped. i started writing fic in 2018 sometime when i met my stay friends at uni! it was a nice way to bond with them while we were still getting to know each other, and they’re now some of the few people i trust to show my writing to when it’s unfinished and imperfect.

6: writing has done a lot of good work for my mental health, i think! it encourages me to look inwards and consider why i’m writing the themes i am or just gives me an outlet for bad emotions rather than turning them inwards. it’s done wonders for my confidence over the years, too; i think it’s something that even i can’t deny that i’m fairly good at, and it’s good to have that when my brain tries to tell me that i’m mediocre at everything.

9: i’m terrible with writing to deadlines, so not really. i might set deadlines for editing, but my writing is often so unpredictably long that i couldn’t write to a deadline if i tried (the thing i tried to write in time for my friend’s birthday? it might be done by her next birthday. in october 2023. maybe.)

17: i love fantasy AUs as a whole really, but i’m always drawn to vampire AUs! the only reason i haven’t written one of my own is because i think there are far too many good ones, and i worry that i wouldn’t be able to come up with something unique enough to match up.

18: i really love writing seungchan? i think it’s partially that they’re my favourite members to write, and partially that they’re the members who can often come across as most serious (although they’ve both been silly in interviews lately) and so i feel like i can put them in slightly darker stories. seungbin and jeongchan are creeping up the list though.

30: the hardest part of writing happens once i’m about 80% of the way through a story; i’ve done most of the fun worldbuilding by that point, and most of the very emotional scenes have to give way to Actual Plot before i can write an emotional ending. it’s the point in a fic where i’m most likely to get bored and have to drag myself through the writing process.

31: big descriptive scenes! i love sitting and describing things, it’s a wonderful exercise in creativity and it allows me to set a scene really well. i love the experience of choosing which words to use to set the tone of a story; i’d describe the same forest using very different wording in a faerie fantasy au to a horror fantasy au for example, and it comes very naturally to me to just sit and set the scene before any pesky characters or dialogue get involved.

38: all the time! occasionally i get nostalgic for my own concepts, or reminded of them by friends or ao3 comments, and i’ll reread sections or whole fics then. it sounds a little arrogant, but sometimes my own fics are the only ones that scratch the itch for very specific content in my brain. it makes sense, i suppose. i wrote them exactly to my own taste, after all.

44: i tend to write linear these days! i’ll definitely plan future scenes (with the orchid, for example, i’d been waiting for weeks to get to the scene where minho admits he’d deactivate his own emotional processor if seungmin got hurt) but i tend to leave them hanging there as incentive to write the scenes leading up to them.

49: i guess the writing advice i’d give is to not be afraid of being a little bit weird? just genuinely write how you want to write, not in a way you think is good or that people will like. i find writing a lot more fun and fulfilling when i let myself use the bizarre metaphors and odd descriptors that i actually want to, rather than worrying that people won’t like or understand it.

3: that sort of dark, glow-y blue that you sometimes get in christmas lights. it gives me sensory ick and i can't look at it for too long without freaking out.

4: i love the idea of so many cultures having myths about dragons that they must have been real at some point. there are a lot of pretty wild extinct megafauna, it would be very cool if dragons were among them.

5: ooooooh. mash or curly fries.

8: i normally take a shower as soon as i get in from work and then put my pyjamas on (i.e. soft fleecy trousers and an old baggy t-shirt)

16: i love mint choc chip. it's one of my favourite ice cream flavours. whoever thinks it tastes like toothpaste is using some very odd toothpaste.

26: my spice tolerance is ok! i can't take really spicy food, but i can handle moderate spice without too much trouble. i don't often choose to, though, because sometimes the heat drowns out the rest of the flavours.

27: a garish patterned shirt, tucked into my black lucy and yak jeans that make my waist look nice, with black boots (also my crystal necklace and my viking rune ring)! add a black turtleneck under the shirt if i'm feeling fancy.

29: i... can't eat pasta. the texture is Bad for me. most people i meet are baffled by this.

12: i've written so much seungmin this year. i used to write chan the most, but it's like a switch has flipped and seungmin is now the only character i want to write.

21: most memorable comment... someone messaged me about the butterfly collector and how much it meant to them to see depression represented in fic. that one touched me quite a lot. it's good to know i'm doing that sort of thing right, since it's a bit of personal subject.

TBH, I didn't expect to write any of my minsung bingo fics this year, but especially this one : The truth is in the night. Because it's canon compliant, and I don't like writing canon compliant because I get too stressed about not writing things accurately. It's my shortest fic for a reason LMAO

Something I learned this year?? Uhh... I learned how to properly format dialogue! soidhgsidh IDK?! And I learned that I can write "difficult" AU's/tropes I never thought I'd be able to write, I just need to find the right story :D
