That Oink Cray-
The Fat Pig has always been on our bucket list, celebrity chef Tom Aikens second Hong Kong venture. We have tried The Pawn and found that most of his flavours were very rich and lacked creativity. Negative comments aside, bacon, pork belly, sausages and char siu…. who doesn’t love them?
Barbecued Pork Bun AKA Char Siu Bao $10 each
Typically, we will always order this dish when we have yum cha but this spin on the char siu bao is totally different from the traditional bun. Completely changing the outlook of the bao and putting on a very cute pig face. The pulled pork char siu was surprisingly good and we do recommend you try it for the photo and flavours.
Pork Scratching’s & Crisps: $25
TASTED LIKE UK!!! Standard pub snack was great to enjoy whilst sipping on some of the premium lager they offer. The scratching’s is cooked 3 different ways; the deep fried belly was the best.
Seared Tuna, Avocado, Pickled Radish & sesame $98
Surprisingly for a restaurant that focusses on pork dishes the tuna was one of the star dishes. Maybe the chef previously worked at The Fat Tuna hahaha!! The tuna and avocado make a really good combination.
Pork Neck , Spiced Mung Beans $168
Deep fried pork neck, we actually didn’t expect what we received. It was a bit dry and with no sauce it was boring. The spiced mung beans were really good and the slight hint of spice was perfect. We wouldn’t recommend this dish as we will never order it agian. For the price of this main we suggest you order something else.
Recommended Dishes:
Pork Belly, Wholegrain Mustard Mash, Sage & Apple Glaze $238
The apple glaze and the pork belly is always a great combination, the apple glaze’s sweetness helped balance the juiciness of the belly. Substituting the regular apple sauce, the apple glaze matched the belly’s richness. The mustard mash was delicious, the sweet and spicy could be compared to that of sweet and sour pork.
Overall:
This restaurant is serious about its pork, no porking around. We certainly like this restaurant and the service was very good. We do recommend you book a table in advanced. Oink Oink Oink.
