Am I wrong?
a part of me wishes Arthur would’ve pulled a Simon (from bridegerton) vowing not to marry and not to have an heir to Uther as he dies. (setting aside Arthur’s love for Camelot and the fact that I believe he would never do anything that would result in his people going into a civil war because of him).
But then again, that’s the brilliance of Merlin bbc, to me at least. Uther was never written as an outright emotionally abusive monster who accidently killed his wife and then proceeded to kill thousands of people to ease his guilt. imo, even if Arthur knew about Uther’s role in Ygraine’s death, I don’t think he would’ve been that cruel with Uther. There is still something to Uther that makes him human despite all the evil things he’s done, that make me understand him even the slightest bit. Isn’t there a saying that goes something along the lines “never understand your enemy, to understand is to love”? and while I don’t love Uther, I understand him. To manage to give a character that, that’s brilliant writing to me.
the grayness of every character on this show is phenomenal and will never cease to amaze me.
Uther: Welcome to Camelot! The first rule is that no one can say no to my rules
Arthur: Father, that’s called tyranny, and it’s generally frowned upon...
