Debeaking - When a chick is days old they go through the cruel process of having their beak cut or burnt off. This is done without pain relief despite the fact chickens have feeling and even blood circling in their beaks. It can go wrong and this can damage the beak.

Meet Tess

Tess is a darling little girl. Less than a year old. Her beak was cruelly cut and in the process was damaged very badly. Can you imagine her pain? She was then placed with thousands of other chicks. Somehow she survived long enough to be transported to a farm. Then she escaped.

Despite everything that has happened to her, by day three Tess was my shadow. She loves to be picked up and cuddled. She is a very chatty hen and can talk for hours! She has to eat separate from the others as she requires a deep bowl/tray and takes a bit longer to eat. Thankfully she can eat all by herself. She loves mashed potato, mango and strawberries!
