ISCOS (Internship)

5 September 2016 - 31 January 2017

ISCOS is an organization that works very closely with the incarcerated community. They have different departments working with the incarcerated to prepare them for their life after their sentence by providing them with employment advice and opportunities, services are also provided for their family members as well.

Through my internship, I was attached to the Fairy God Parent department, which works very closely with the families of the incarcerated by providing support groups for mothers and meaning events (e.g. Family day, parenting working, motivational workshop etc) for different subsystems of the family. 

I have been interested in working with the incarcerated community for a few years. This internship has allowed me to experience the hard work and heart work of social workers in the social service industry, it is indeed one of the most valuable experience I could ever ask for.

The New Charis Mission (TNCM)

Since November 2015

TNCM is a halfway house that provides a holistic rehabilitation programme for the ex-incarcerated. Volunteering is a part of their rehabilitation programme. Through the volunteering experience, volunteers and the ex-incarcerated work hand in hand to help elderlies living in poverty.

Other than having the opportunity to give back to the community of elderlies living in poverty, I was also exposed to social work skills (e.g. Interviewing of clients, case report writing, application of government schemes etc.) 

I am deeply humbled by the experience of volunteering with working with the ex-incarcerated community to see how volunteering can empower them by giving them a sense of purpose and chance for personal reflection.
