Did everyone just collectively hallucinate Ratchet beating people with wrenches or did I watch a different show???
Like I’m fairly certain from all I remember of G1 and TFP I do not remember him throwing wrenches at people at any point. I’m genuinely baffled, where does this common fandom depiction of the character even come from??????
v interesting that the "'actively' gay gender-conforming person with extreme unacknowledged internalized homophobia" seems to have two main options for partners and that this is true for gay men and lesbians alike.
there's the "we are both otherwise gender conforming" option because being gnc is Too Gay (the "no fats no fems" grindr dude / the instagram-model-for-instagram-model women who post about how "we're not all fat ugly butches")*
or there's the "I can basically pretend we're a straight couple" option (many many cultures having a former or current perception of men who exclusively top as still conditionally heterosexual / the woman who expects her butch partner to functionally Be A Man)
*much to be said about the degendering of fatness here but that's another topic
"You find me attractive?"
"Very much so, yes."
this post is very funny but it reminded me that dear GOD i wish neopets had an actual well-maintained wiki that requires citations. because The Book of Ages doesn't cite anything and will state speculation as fact with no indication that that's the case.
The Book of Ages is unquestionably the best resource there is for neopets info! ...and it also claims that some Capriors can shapeshift into Neopets, because somebody at Jellyneo assumed that:
all of the Tamed Mini-Monster petpets possess the same shapeshifting ability as Scarlet from the Spooky Food Eating Contest
these monsters are a type of giant Caprior
But none of this is officially stated anywhere!!!! Aside from both species being blue, satyr-like, and having wings, they don't even look at all similar.
(thank you to @rattus-dirus for commiserating with me on discord about the lack of citations, and for being the one to point out the "capriors can shapeshift" claim and knowing where it came from. because i 100% would not have figured out that they were referring to the events of the Spooky Food Eating Contest on my own)

i have nobody to talk to abt this so its going into the tumblr void. the decision on the part of the pjsk localization team to translate 「虚無さん」 (the new mafuyu focus song) as "Mx.Nihil" instead of just leaving it "Nihil-san". is. perplexing
the honorific "-san" in japanese is not gender neutral the same way the title "Mx." is in english. "-san" is rather more gender agnostic; if you referred to someone with "-san" without any context it would be impossible to infer what that person's gender would be (ignoring gendered given names).
on the other hand "Mx." is very much gendered, it doesnt fall into the traditional gender binary. if you referred to someone with "Mx." without any context it would immediately be clear that the person you are talking about does not fall cleanly within the gender binary. not the same thing in any sense
additionally, there are other songs in the game that are just. not translated? not even just famous ones like "Miku Miku ni Shiteageru", some focus songs are transliterated. for instance "Boku no Kamisama" (nene focus song) is transliterated in the global game rather than being translated as "My God" or "God of Mine", likely because such translations are missing important nuance. so. why didnt they do the same for this song?? especially since the honorific "-san" is at least vaguely understood overseas?? i understand the choice to localize story dialogue and stuff without honorifics to reach a wider audience. but with song titles theres a ton of precedents?? highly confused
edit: did a little bit of digging; on ¿?shimon's spotify page the english name of the song is listed as "Mr.nihil", so they probably tried to match the artist's intentions while still making it applicable to mafuyu. understandable good luck localization team o7
