You’d been watching Charlie play for a few minutes now, watching his fingers skating over the keyboard as he laughed with his friends on a Discord call. You’d really just been scrolling through your phone for the past few minutes, only glancing up on occasion after a particularly loud laugh or witty joke, before Charlie turned to you.

“Hey y/n, wanna learn how to play?” You gave him a once over, trying to sense sarcasm, then grinned in agreement.

“Hey, sure! I’d love to.” You turned to his webcam to address the rest of his team and asked, “You guys okay if I try this out?” Charlie scoffed playfully, bumping you.

“Who cares? If they don’t want you here I can easily kick them. They can learn to play, right guys?” He turned to the camera, his smile taking on a playfully threatening energy. You heard friendly affirmations from the other men on the call and saw Charlie’s smile widen before he moved over, pulling up another chair. “Here, so these keys are the move keys, like Minecraft. There’s a dash button and…”

He talked for a few moments, with you trying to pay attention but only really watching his hands as they slid over the keys with confidence you knew you could never have. You were broken out of your stupor when he turned to you, asking if you’d like to try.

“Oh! I mean sure, I might need a little help though.” Placing your fingers on the keys like he’d shown you, you tried to mimic his fluid movements, succeeding in moving the character around the screen in slightly jerky motions.

“There you go, you’re getting it! Here, can I give you a hint?” Once you nodded, he lightly set his hands over yours, showing you how to move them and position your fingers on the keys in such a way that it was almost too easy to move around. You pressed a few keys, smiling at the much smoother results, and sped up your motions, enjoying the feeling that you were doing it right. Charlie wrapped an arm around your shoulders, grinning like a proud parent as he watched you play, messing around with his friends and occasionally whacking them with your sword. You leaned into his side, warm and safe as you laughed at his occasional quips, yelling and joking around with him and his friends and nearly falling out of your chair when you got an achievement.

“YES!! Charlie I did it! Did you see?” You pulled back a bit and turned to him, grinning wildly. He nodded and pulled you in for a tight hug, drawing a smiley face on your back.

“Yeah, I saw it!! Awesome job, y/n. I’m proud of you.”
